Bic-B@ll Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 I got touch for Christmas and think it's badass and was wondering what the rest of you think. I'm thoroughly impressed with all of the nifty features in it, though there are some things that bug me. Firstly, I'm not a fan of iTunes, then there's the issue of Apple allowed-only apps, it doesn't work with he XBox 360, my powered USB hub can't charge it, it downsizes (considerably) high-res pictures etc. Most importantly I think the touch screen is pretty awesome, especially the multi-touch zooming, however I used my previousnMP3 player in the car often and it had physical controls that I could use without looking. Now, I have to press the unlock button, slide the unlock, stand it up to get out of album mode, and find the next button, same goes for when its in my pocket. Oh and the keyboard is freaking hard to use and half the apps won't let you use it in landscape mode which makes it 20x easier to use. It still is really cool and I've added a couple of apps that I think I'll get a lot of use out of. I'm going to be pissed if when I return to school I find that it won't work with the wireless internet system there but it should. I don't know if I'll ever pay attention in class again, so much of my beautiful mind thread I was wondering what apps any of you owners have, so far I have: Tap Tap Revenge Pandora Last.fm Wikiamo AIM Facebook Night Stand Kitchen Timer The Weather Channel WiFinder Quote

Bic-B@ll Posted December 31, 2008 Author Report Posted December 31, 2008 im guessing you have a jalbroken g1 iphone? Quote
hessi Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 i have a jailbroken 3g iphone with a legit t-mobile contract (which is the german iphone service provider). so the jailbreak is just for having FTP access, emulators and ScummVM no need for unlock here Quote
e-freak Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 hessi does the t-mobile contract pay off? i was worried I have to pay 1000 bucks all together and the contract isn't too nice for what it offers apart from the phone... Quote
-HP- Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 I've been thinking about jailbreaking mine as well! And I also might need to network unlock, although I don't know how to, and if it works flawless. There are shitloads of funny and useful apps for iphone, like Shazam! Every iphone owner should try that out, it works like a charm, It's even creepy! Anyways, I use SteadyCam for taking pictures, It's slower but it takes pics with a lot more quality. - Google App - 7Arte (A portuguese app, to see which movies are currently on the cinemas) - iTranslate - The Weather Channel (Although the stock app for weather also works well) That's it really, I got a couple more small apps, nothing important. And I also got shitloads of games, Topple currently being my fav! PS. What's ScummVM for? Quote
Seldoon182 Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 ...it doesn't work with he XBox 360... Nothing from Ms work with the iPhone... By the way I'm waiting Apple to move their ass and give us Flash! Quote
hessi Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 if you purchase an iphone in italy (no sim lock) you usually pay 500 euro. giving a common contract you maybe pay around 20 euros for an unlimited voice and internet usage. the time base is usually 2 years. 500 + 24*20 = 500 + 480 = 980 euro. so overall the t-mobile contract might sound like a rip off, but for what i get it is ok. i can now even use the hotspots in ICE trains or public t-mobile hotspots. this allows faster internet access. and besides: the iphone is not just a phone. it is also videoplayer, mail client, webbrowser and so on. so the higher price is well worth it. best gadget for geeks! ":1aaucio6] PS. What's ScummVM for? WTFail! have you ever heard of lucas art's adventure games? Quote
hessi Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 oh i just found PanoLab. great app for creating panorama images directly on the iphone. sadly there is no image blending in the free version, but it is still nice if you just want to quickly stich a few images and mail them. Quote
Bic-B@ll Posted January 1, 2009 Author Report Posted January 1, 2009 i just added remote and man this is cool, im going to have to start using itunes. while at school i sit in bed a lot and use the laptop for music, i could use a microsoft remote with ir to control winamp by doing next/previous but i can control itunes like i control the ipod itself, too fucking cool. btw, does anyone know how the touch guesses where you are? it knows exactly where my fucking house is and im using my own wifi, there's no info with my address anywhere for it to know and its creeping me out.
