zaphod Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 http://www.bluesnews.com/cgi-bin/board. ... adid=52734 over two and a half years ago, after diddling around with counter-strike maps, and day of defeat - mikezilla referred someone who had just been hired at Troika Games to consider me for employment. The last 2 and a half years of my life have been an enormous rollercoaster of a ride, during which I have learned more about game development and growing up, than during any other event in my entire life. The 16th of next month marks a personal milestone for me, and wraps up a very special personal experience. Mapcore played a big part in keeping me interested in mapping enough to get to where I had this chance, and it has been excruciating for me to not have been able to show everyone my progress and things I have been excited about making for the last few years. This post isn't about me, and my personal accomplishments with this game. It's about a little community called mapcore, full of 15 year old immature counter-strike mappers, that made games for fun and to share with each other - and grew up and got jobs in the industry, and as you will start to see more and more in the coming years, started to release professional video games. IT'S HAPPENING GUYS, DREAMS DO COME TRUE! can you tell I'm excited? Quote
Duff-e Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 my name better be in the fucking credits....72 font....no need for a title just put "god" Quote
Tequila Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 You gotta be fucking kidding! The same day as HL2? Well, it'll probably be on the 19th, a friday, here in the UK, which is for the better as I won't be crushed under an avalanche of A+++ games. Congratulations Mr Z! You're so fucking Lestat! Quote
Mazy Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 RAWKZ0R! Must also be quite special to finish your first game But yeah, it is quite amazing that a pretty immature community could grow into a source of so much industry talent that it is today, and I doubt that it'll stop here Anyway, /me flipflops away Quote
Fletch Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 HIGH FIVE!! now give us free copies of your game. pleeeeease. Quote
Duff-e Posted November 10, 2004 Report Posted November 10, 2004 im not one to question your marketing department or anything....but how wise is it to release this game so close to the dates of well known amazing games such as halo 2, gta:sa, hl2....i mean....people like buying games....but most people dont have $150 to drop on games in a couple of weeks why not release the game during a dry spell like a few months ago...or before doom 3 Quote
zaphod Posted November 10, 2004 Author Report Posted November 10, 2004 I dunno, you should call up activision and ask them. They just paid us to make the game for them, it's up to them to do what they will with it, Troika has no say. Quote

Thus the (infinitely small) difference between their release dates. Quote
TomWithTheWeather Posted November 10, 2004 Report Posted November 10, 2004 There's no better feeling than being able walk into a Best Buy or something and see YOUR game right there on the shelf. Shipping a game is probably one of the greatest feelings of accomplishment I've ever had. Quote
JynxDaddy Posted November 10, 2004 Report Posted November 10, 2004 Wow, I sure wish I didnt suck at everything Congrats Zaphod, your story is touching. I cant wait to play Quote
