raver Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 Hello people, My first post ... with a question about hammer 3.4. Damn I'm doing something teribly wrong ... Anyways, I know I should move to source, but I feel my experience with Goldz0rz isn't over yet. I have a lot to learn. And I hope you guys still love that oldskool feeling of mapping, I still enjoy it to much! So, here is my thingy ... I bought a new PC. Its all up to date now with a kickass graphic card and such. With this new pc (vista & ati drivers .. xp or vista dont make a difference in this case) I cant select objects and aply textures in my 3D screen. Its really annoying because I just cant texture the map. I can live with the non selecting. But aplying textures is a must! I know kinda the problem, but I still didnt found a fix for it. Its the problem that the newest ati drivers dont support OPENGL2, and old version of opengl that hammer uses. So do you know guys how to fix it? Are there some driver files for opengl only? That also works with vista? I really hope you guys maby know the sulution! Quote
hessi Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 you know that 3.4 is out of date? get the 3.5 beta which was the last release of a hammer editor for the old old hl1 engine. Quote

Quakis Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 I wanted to use Hammer some months back to give Quake mapping a shot, but I came across the same problem. Old Worldcraft worked fine though, but I found that too clunky. The only way I found out to make it work in Hammer is to disable your video card (which is more hassle than needed) I didn't really look any further into this though, since I eventually just switched to gtkradiant (since it supports Quake and works fine) Quote
⌐■_■ Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 im guessing youve got an ATI graphics card, in wich case you'll have to replace the atioglxx.dll with and older one. get it here http://www.gigasize.com/get.php?d=fmdfh94msgd (this one worked fine for me, so i think youre save). make sure you backup the new one, since youll need that one for hammer 4.0 to work (i just make two seperate maps in wich i store the dll's for my own convenience). succes! whine/ i miss the technical disccussionboard Quote

But badly the 3D screen is lagging now. Anyway, thanks. If somebody knows another option, plz ! Quote
⌐■_■ Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 yeah, if your map is big and complex, hammer will lag the hell out of your pc.. you could try using another atioglx.dll but id give it a small chance of improvement. succes, if you have any other solution, be sure to post it here for the lot of us Quote

Because if you use NO driver at all (videocard disabled), it runs so smooth as a baby skin. Even with my biggest map loaded fully textures and models. Just weird ... Quote
mjens Posted December 24, 2008 Report Posted December 24, 2008 If somebody knows another option, plz ! hardcore mapperz don't use 3d view Vista, right? It doesn't support OpenGL... Check this one. That guy is having different problem but it might be OpenGL's fault too. There's info like this one: Additional Comments I ran hammer like this: wine hammer.exe -- -opengl It removed the flickering and black screen problems. Quote
Sindwiller Posted December 24, 2008 Report Posted December 24, 2008 seir, that site is about a Linux application that wraps a Windows environment for Windows apps under Linux. Meaning that you can run Windows apps on Linux. Quote
mjens Posted December 25, 2008 Report Posted December 25, 2008 So there's no "-- -opengl" in Hammer? Anyway it's OpenGL's fault Quote
