Warby
i am finally finishing my pile of shame and its exactly one title deep ... "deus ex" this game and me we have a history. when i first saw screen shots in some gaming mag and than reading about its story and features i went ape shit excited and even took on a summer job in order to afford buying the game the second it comes out. but i go horribly burned once before with command and conquer tiberian sun. which i bought full price and ended up hating. so once the game came out and i knew one of my friend who pirates stuff like crazy and never ever finishes a game would get it and i could see it there and he was LOVING it but i tried it and it was slow and sluggishly controlled and tons of reading and was really really ugly even by back than standards. and i ended up not playing it further than the command office after the liberty island mission. cut to 2003 or 4 when i borrowed the game form a coworker after it got critical acclaim and game of the year awards and such i wanted to give it another chance but of course at that point controls and graphics were EVEN more outdated and unacceptable and when i hit the subway level i just could not take it anymore. i think i tired one or 2 more times... but now i have grown more mature and can handle beating outdated titles after all i beat both fallout games in preparation for fall out 3 this year despite the controls and LOVED IT ! so i borrowed the game form mazy and it came in a dvd case lovingly labeled "FUNDISC" i installed it and played through the liberty island mission and tutorial again. and once again i think OMG UGLY but there was this guy a while ago that posted a thread with a high quality graphics package with high res textures normal maps and hdr bloom ... you know FANCY SHIT but i can not find that thread anymore D: so who has links to patches and enhancements or anything really i can install for this thing ? deus ex fan boys out there SHOW ME YOUR LOVE ! -HP-
Here's something I made a few months back. I basically compiled a graphics mod that enables SSAO, normal mapping and specular mapping, with a HD texture pack called HDTP, I've been receiving very good feedback lately, so you might like it! http://www.helderpinto.com/blog/persona ... d-v01.html Video: Some comparison pics: --------------------------------- Enjoy, and let me know if you have any questions. And please, do try to finish this game, it is one of the best games ever made!

-HP-
Btw, to run the game without a CD, change the CdPath=J: to CdPath=..\ in HDTP.ini and DeusEx.ini
Steppenwolf
Even if you hate the gfx you should force yourself to play it. Eventualy the game will grow on you. But even if not. As a professional level designer or game designer you can learn so much from this game it's insane. The levels are a great lesson for non-linear and yet not confusing level design and clever use of space. You don't see this in 99% of todays games which is really a shame. Games today are either super linear or complete wide open sandboxes.

Jetsetlemming
I don't get why people complain about Deus Ex's graphics but then again I'm an old school gamer through and through. I actually think Deus Ex looks GOOD, and marvel at how much detail and design they pulled off at such a low res and poly count. The world looks real, and the characters can emote, and that's head and shoulders above any of its peers.

Still haven't bothered with it since... There's just no excuse for that! It was actually the only game you've been able to run for the past few years! Go play it. Now. Before I get real mad

I was 13 when Deus Ex came out. Gaming taste doesn't neccesarily correspond to age, though! Most of my all-time favorites are from the mid to late 90's, games like X:com and Shadowrun and System Shock. My list from that PC Gamer top 100 feature last summer: 1. Deus Ex 2. UFO: Enemy Unknown 3. Hitman: Blood Money 4. System Shock 2 5. Half-Life 2 Episode 2 6. Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne 7. Psychonauts 8. Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind 9. Portal 10. Enemy Territory I actually had some of my descriptions of those games (DX, X:com, Blood Money, and Morrowind, I think) printed in the magazine feature.
