mike-0
I need lights shining through these windows, projecting on to the wall behind it. I cannot do it using light_environment. Is there a way to make light_spot have sharp 90 degree corners so that it goes through said window?
Tequila
Make the light_spot's Constant really high, mike. I'm talking at least 100000. Really gives the cast light a neat, intense sharpness.
mike-0
that doesnt answer my question but ok.
Bic-B@ll
im not really sure waht youre talking about but if you want the light spot to aim through the window use an info target (if they still use those in hl2, i dunno)
DaanO
That's what he wants but he doesn't want light from a point but from a direction in general.

Bic-B@ll
name the info target, and then give the light_spot a target, the light spot will aim at the info target
RD
use invisible texture light just in front of the wall, in square shape
mike-0
use invisible texture light just in front of the wall, in square shape what? how is that done, more specific please
Tequila
I don't understand how my method doesn't solve your problem. Point a really intense light_spot through the window and the shadows on the other side will take the shape of the window.
mike-0
I know what you mean now, but the player can run outside the house too. I dont want the player running into an intense light that comes from nowhere.
mike-0
Ok, i got the light to shine through the window, but it obviously hits the outside of the window and theres a huge blotch of random light (i know its not the right color ill fix that). Is there a way i can make that face not effected by that light or something?
Crackerjack
Yes, in the textures folder (what ever that window is called) type in "tools" and you will see a green texture that is called" block light. Simply put some brushes around the window to block the light. BUT! that wont work because that means its blocking all the light and it would look really wierd. SO! what you can do is: the brushes you just put around the window.. take those and skew them to a larger size so that its maybe twice the size of the window now... then place those brushes on the wall and have the light_spot inside right by the window... and if it works it should look exactly how you want it too.. just make sure there are no other lights in the hall that would make it look wierd. AND! if that doesnt work.... experiment with other things.. maybe make the inner angle small and same with the outer angle... Hope this helps. RD
put the lightspot inside the house, let it shine on the wall u want but use the block light texture wherevr u want it to be dark on the wall.
