I'm surprised there are still people in the industry surprised by this kinda business protocols...embargos on reviews and previews (unless the score is high) have always been around it seems to me....It doesn't make the practice any more right or wrong (except to the eyes of the shareholders) but surprising? Hardly...

hey guys, i've got an idea: instead of making awesome games, let's instead create a gigantic hype machine and hold off reviews from all companies! i'm sure it'll work better than actiblizzard's cashcow strategy! customers love getting it up the ass.

why not just get better game designers to ensure the games do not suck? is it really that hard? i mean, there are companies that have never released bad games, and they seem to be doing alright... so what gives? is that extra money really worth the entirety of your reputation as a publisher?

i just finished it its a good game none of this is necessary !

i just remembered something that david fincher said on the se7en or figth club commentary:

it went something like this:

you know what i hate ? those marketing people at the studio who get an advanced screening of a close to final cut and than they act like its a complete disaster and its up to THEM to fix it no matter how good the material is that they just saw.

I'm well aware of these practices (If you're referring to me). However you rarely (If ever) hear about this, someone definitely went outta their way to make a point with this. Or maybe that guy from Gamespot was just pissed about the things that happend last year and wanted to stir up some trouble again.

What he said. As stupid as it is, this is common business practice in the industry unfortunately. Especially with big corporations.

the joke's on them. if they want to be labeled as publishers who do everything to sell their games rather than making good games, let them. the more we get this out, the more we can show them that "good" business practices aren't that good when customers learn about them. this does in no way go over whatever work you do, but i feel it might damage the reputation of a given game as much as it does that of a publisher.

This is so silly, the games industry is such a joke sometimes. Underworld has been well received anyway, PCGUK gave it a "Must Buy" rating and commented on how spectacular the environments are.
