I just saw it, and I loved it, it's a good movie, but yeah the plot wasn't perfect... It felt like the creators of the movie ran out of inspiration... Quote
D3ads Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 I liked it, it wasn't as good as Casino Royale but then I never expected it to be and I enjoyed what I saw, roll on Daniel Craig movie #3 Quote
dux Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 I was sceptical when the cast Craig as bond but he gets better each time. Quote

Buddy Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 There will be atleast 5 Craig-Bond movies (Thats what he's contracted to so far) and thats ubercool Quote
Thrik Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 Just saw and enjoyed it. The storytelling definitely wasn't as tidy as Casino Royale's, leaving little strands either unsatisfactorily closed or not closed at all. Although the overall story arc continues from Casino Royale, the aforementioned film still felt like a very complete story and in fact I didn't assume it'd be continued in Quantum of Solace until I saw the trailers. With Quantum of Solace, I feel like it's almost certainly going to be continued; it's one of those films where it ends and you think "FFS, they're ending it there?". But then, if they tried to cram it all into this film it wouldn't do it justice. They've kind of set up this big story arc about a huge criminal organisation that we've only scratched the surface of (Will Mr White become the new Blofeld?!), and I imagine they'll keep that developing for at least two more films. However the action and everything else more than made up for any storytelling dissatisfaction and to be honest there's nothing that wrong with the storytelling — it just isn't as neat and tidy as Casino Royale's. Well worth watching. Quote
D3ads Posted November 13, 2008 Report Posted November 13, 2008 Uhh... Mr White was the guy they were interogating at the beginning wasn't he? I thought he got shot and killed in the gun fight that followed? Quote
ctswin Posted November 13, 2008 Report Posted November 13, 2008 Uhh... Mr White was the guy they were interogating at the beginning wasn't he? I thought he got shot and killed in the gun fight that followed? No, he escaped and then was last seen at the Opera Quote
Thrik Posted November 13, 2008 Report Posted November 13, 2008 Aye, he sees everyone else standing up after Bond freaks them out and chooses to stay sat down. He makes a little comment to the person next to him, and the last we see of him is when he watches Bond walk off to confront all the baddies. Quote
Mazy Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 Can't be bothered to read what people here think of it, but I saw it yesterday and had very low expectations with all the so-so reviews there's been, but I really liked it. Sure its not as polished as Casino Royale in plot, but the action was fucking brilliant. And I for one don't give a fuck if it's action is very much inspired by the Bourne movies. I'd say that some of the chases in this movie were better than some of the stuff in the Bourne movies even. And the people that say that "Ooooh, its not James Bond anymore, he's too aggressive and confrontational", go watch the old movies, I still love the old ones but they're completely different movies and I like that this is something else. Too much of that charming old prick, gimme some explosions! I still think Casino Royale is a much better movie overall, but this was hardly the train wreck that a lot of the reviews I saw made it out to be. Quote

Skjalg Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Wow, I never thought this day would come but I'm disagreeing a little with you there Mazy. I didn't like the Bourne-esque action one bit it was too much flip-flopping between camera angles and it only pissed me off when I saw it. The action was sweet tho and I'm giving the film a 7/10. Quote
Izuno Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Indeed the flipfloping drove me nuts. And that's my only complaint about the Bourne movies, especially the second one. The cutting every 0.35 seconds in action sequences was so frustrating. Otherwise those movies would all be A+ from me. I guess I am getting used them, like what we saw in QoS but I also still hate. I prefer to see action in longer shots in more satisfying ways. Think of the action in classics like Raiders of the Lost Arc or Empire Strikes Back. We're talking action film-making 101 from a slightly different era, but at least you can get your mind around everything that's going on. All the super fast cuts and microshots feel like a bullshit cinematic technique to artificially make a film seem more intense. I guess it is a trend that Directors and DPs have "come up with" but FFS it feels like a bunch of suits in Hollywood said "make it more intensererer!" and then the actual filmmakers rolled their eyes and said ".............................ok." (But that's just a cynical perspective.) Aside from that, I still enjoyed QoS though I liked Casino Royale better, and overall I think Daniel Craig is the best Bond since Sean Connery's, though the two portrayals have lots of differences.
