Minos Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 Another "nice" news from EA today. They are laying off 600 people to improve their revenues and profitability. wow... Full story: http://kotaku.com/5071439/electronic-ar ... ix-hundred Quote
kleinluka Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 i think this deserves its own thread Quote
FrieChamp Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 On the subject of not being able to play your games anymore if you get banned from the EA forums: apparently this is all a huuuge misunderstanding and completely untrue: http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/55656 EA really needs to get their moderators under control. How about starting in that department for layoffs? Quote
robert.briscoe Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 indeed! I really wish people would stop jumping the gun and grabbing there pitchforks everytime the word EA is uttered. As for the layoffs, it's natural in this industry that projects are cancelled and people have to be let go. Doesnt mean EA are evil it's just common sense. Quote
Sentura Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 i could go to lengths to elaborate why people are laid off and so on, apart from just being regular market strategy, but i won't. EA aren't evil, but you can't make a garden without weeding it out now and again. so 600 people got fired. so what? it doesn't mean that those 600 people died; they'll find work again. my curiousity lies in that i see you people having the same emotions for 600 people laid off as for 600 people that died. in the end, neither case matters. this doesn't mean i am a cold, calculated bastard, but look at it my way: if we're all reduced to nothing in a million years, why not just live life to the fullest right now? carpe diem, motherfuckers. Erratic Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 I think it's because the bottom line is, getting fired sucks? Quote
Steppenwolf Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 Ah Sentura is pulling a Sentura again. I agree its totally wrong getting worried or upset about hundrets of people in the same industry losing their jobs. Hey lets party instead  Quote

I'd say this applies to rumors which often turn out to be untrue but all this article was was a link to a post written by an EA community manager, so the source seemed to be credible. Turned out he and kotaku were wrong plus everybody else picking up on this. Still if you can't trust Kotaku, WHO ELSE could you still trust? Hm??? Quote
-HP- Posted October 31, 2008 Author Report Posted October 31, 2008 no one should trust kotaku. We should trust neogaf geeks instead! Quote

Hey lets party instead  i didn't say i wanted to party or anything, but it's not as big a deal as you blow it up to be. people lose their jobs, get over it. or don't. i mean i don't know about you, but i never cried over spilt milk. maybe you do. Dude, relax I do agree with stepp. When such a big a company fires 6% of its staff it IS big deal. News like this make you feel insecure. Sure, someone who worked at EA can easily find a new job (or not) but its still a big headache. Chances the person will need to relocate to a new town or even country are pretty high, and some of those have families. Wives with their own jobs, not to mention kids and school. Relocating is very troublesome and time/money consuming. I DO feel sorry for these people, it's not like they are going to die but stuff like this affect the industry as a whole whether you like it or not. Quote
Steppenwolf Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 Wow Sentura you just outed yourself as a sociopath by comparing other peoples job loss with spilled milk. Minos explained why it is a big deal for the persons and why its only logical to feel empathy for them when they work in the same industry as many of us. Quote
