FrieChamp Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Original Story: According to a seven page thread on the 2K Sports forums, the company forgot something important when it shipped the PC version of NBA 2K9 (also, PS3, X360) to stores: there is no CD key to be found anywhere in the box. Shame for 2K, but let me be the first one to say: EPIC FAIL! Luckily customers are getting rescued by a knight in shiny, white armour known as "Sir Valve": Update: Valve let us know that Steam now takes care of this issue: "Owners of the retail version of NBA 2K9 for the PC may now install their games without the CD key, provided the disc is in the drive. And those considering a purchase of NBA 2K9 may do so without concern of installation issues related to the lack of a CD key. From: http://www.shacknews.com/laryn.x?story=55472 Quote
Thrik Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Pretty good of Valve if they've done what I think they've done, and allowed regular store buyers to use their service to access the game. Hilariously unfortunate, though. Quote
e-freak Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Steam plays the keygen or how do they manage to know that no one starts sending his disc around now? Quote
insta Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Same thing happened to me when I bought Hidden and Dangerous 2. Had to download a ripped copy so I could get the keygen Quote
2d-chris Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Hehe, sometimes the easiest things to do are forgotten Not anywhere close to the level of epic fail but when INS first released we forgot to add TK protection, the game was plagued with idiots an till the next patch Quote
Minos Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Hehe, sometimes the easiest things to do are forgotten Not anywhere close to the level of epic fail but when INS first released we forgot to add TK protection, the game was plagued with idiots an till the next patch Steppenwolf also screwed up all skyboxes a few days before release and that caused all maps to run terribly bad. For some reason Source was just ignoring vis portals due to skyboxes being compiled wrong and rendering the entire map at once. Quote
D3ads Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Wow, epic fail indeed.. how can you forgot something like that? The mind boggles. Quote
Pampers Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 valve forgot to disable the console command ACHIEVMENTS_UNLOCK_ALL after one of the tf2 updates Quote
Jetsetlemming Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 I seem to remember another PC game doing this recently, hmmm, which one was it again? Quote
