Ginger Lord Posted October 20, 2008 Report Posted October 20, 2008 Heard about this on the radio today, i lol'd: Sony has postponed the global release of a much-anticipated video game due to concerns that it may offend Muslims. Copies of LittleBigPlanet are being recalled from shops worldwide after it emerged that a background music track contained two phrases from the Koran. Sony issued an apology for any offence that its use of the backing track might have caused. The changed version of LittleBigPlanet will now go on sale on 3 November in the UK and 29 October in the US. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7679151.stm Quote
FrieChamp Posted October 20, 2008 Report Posted October 20, 2008 Yea read about this a few days ago. Not surprised that mainstream media is picking it up now. Shame for Sony, especially considering that they had problems with the Church of England last year ("Resistance"). Quote
dux Posted October 20, 2008 Report Posted October 20, 2008 More like they are scared they will get bombed. Quote
Jetsetlemming Posted October 20, 2008 Report Posted October 20, 2008 A dumb reason to delay the game in the first place, a dumb thing to put in the game given the situation (this has happened before, for a lame Xbox fighting game a couple years ago!), and all around very very dumb. Quote

st0lve Posted October 20, 2008 Report Posted October 20, 2008 They are allowed to make a song with quotes, but when that song is in a game it's bad? I don't get it. Quote

I don't get it. no. it's just that when there's a chance muslims will be offended, you have to calculate the very potential risk. it's sad, but it's true. you haven't forgotten the comic issue, right? Steppenwolf Posted October 20, 2008 Report Posted October 20, 2008 I for one welcome our new muslim overlords. Quote

I see what's offensive with creating new and offensive material, but I don't get what's offensive by using material that is already created and "approved". Ok, LBP might not be the best game to add religious songs, but hey. Quote
⌐■_■ Posted October 20, 2008 Report Posted October 20, 2008 i understand your arguments, but i think the radical muslim community will take this to a whole other context (their holy book being used in a sinfull, western game for cheap and unholy entertainment ). really, you dont want to step on this giants toes..
