I'm not talking about fully 3rd person games though. I'm talking about 1st person games that remove you from that viewpoint for X reason.

So I guess you must've just HATED Riddick going into third person for platforming and using healing devices, huh. :?

I'd argue there's a big difference between a very simple dialogue sequence and a prolonged cut scene with the camera flying all over the place.

Deus Ex has an opening and an ending. And maybe some helicopter loading sequences if you wanna get picky.

No, because I've never played it. I understand the need to go into first person for what it was doing. More to the point it seems you don't understand the need to when to change it and when to not.

And Deus Ex 3 uses third person to let the player peak out from behind cover while sneaking, whats your point.

You should play it, it's a fantastic game.

You're still not making any appreciable argument against the minimal use of third person for special actions.

Riddick's third person cuts to climbing over boxes and railings are lame. Deus Ex's dialogue sequences are not. It's pretty simple.

There's a difference between seeing your avatar during a tame dialogue sequence and being whipped out of perspective in the midst of the action. Just take a look at Mirrors Edge. I can only imagine how much more interesting Riddick could have been had it stuck with one perspective.

Also, I'm not rallying against DX3 or anything, just arguing some of these points. I actually don't mind this stuff for the most part, but it's good to be mindful of the genre you're doing it in. For a tactical/action shooter like Vegas, it was fine, for DX, it's a different story.

Here is a link to a collection of images from the magazines, in case some of you missed it.

a french article here:

BTW I just want to point out that there are more magazines coming out in the next few days and in the coming weeks with their articles on the game. It's also important to understand that Eidos doesn't write those articles but the magazines do...and well, sometimes they interpret things their own way and things get blown out of proportion and people jump to conclusions so if you have a specific question you'd like to ask, you can PM me or post it here and I will try to answer it here if I can.
