Zacker Posted October 20, 2008 Report Posted October 20, 2008 I'm loving it! I think the lighting suits the map well, it looks like a fairly simple light setup, but that also makes each element that much stronger. Quote
Warby Posted October 20, 2008 Author Report Posted October 20, 2008 i was always wondering why the light is so dark / contrasty in the screen shots its not at all what it looks like in unrealed .... and than i saw that i completely forgot that a while ago i set the the postfitler settings to VIVID and it seams to make a quite a difference Quote
Freak Posted October 20, 2008 Report Posted October 20, 2008 those heavy blue lights make the scene looking bad Quote
Warby Posted October 20, 2008 Author Report Posted October 20, 2008 apparently no matter what intensity or color i choose it looks bad ! really i am gonna ignore all input except for kokos because he is the only one who dares to have a hand in making it better all i hear here at polycount and the epic board is: -too much red - too little red - those lights are too blue - those lights are to cyan it needs way more blue - its too dark - its too bright ... you guys are making my head explode trying your color scheme koko: yeah i know i sound like a i am whining but really i am feeling more like: http://www.nrhz.de/flyer/media/32_artik ... galgen.jpg Quote
dux Posted October 20, 2008 Report Posted October 20, 2008 I don't see why you can't try enabling the post processing effects. I really think it would help soften it all up a bit so it isn't so hard on the eyes. Quote
Warby Posted October 20, 2008 Author Report Posted October 20, 2008 there is color correction and bloom the dof filter i would not put on anything even if people would put a gun to my head Quote
Minos Posted October 20, 2008 Report Posted October 20, 2008 It's hard to please everyone's eyes when you have so much contrast going on. Is that the cathedral from hessi's map by the way? PS: Looks way better now Quote
Warby Posted October 20, 2008 Author Report Posted October 20, 2008 yes its the dom from kolsch ! Quote
-HP- Posted October 20, 2008 Report Posted October 20, 2008 imho, what looks weird is those blue lamps! I can see what you tried to make there, everything's red and orange, I'm gonna use some blues to give it some contrasts. thing is, cooler colors, don't go along with warmer colors that much, for obvious reasons! Here, take a look at this warm colors list, and pick a better one: http://www.december.com/html/spec/color1.html Quote
e-freak Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 i like your current set up but please lower the ambient brightness (so more lighting only by the lightsources in level height and no sun light Quote

The current hues fit each other perfectly... don't touch them Warby! One thing Warby could try to reduce visual noise is making the flames smaller and less important to the composition. Think of them as visual supports instead of the main focus. Would make the map less polluted (which is why I don't really dig Unreal 3 maps, they have so much visual noise!) and more inviting in my opinion. Quote
-HP- Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 It was just my opinion! And still is... Quote
Warby Posted October 21, 2008 Author Report Posted October 21, 2008 i like your current set up but please lower the ambient brightness (so more lighting only by the lightsources in level height and no sun light can and will lower the ambient a bit ( its alot stronger than the vivid post filter screenshots show) but the sun must stay i spend hours even days to cut up the ground static mesh in just the right way to get sharp vertex color shadows everywhere /edit i just noticed that i have THE POWER to edit your posts ... i accidentally hit the edit and not the quote button Quote
