Fraps?

Cmone you all know that we have a need to record stuff ingame. And i personally like fraps. But i have the choice to either pay for it or pirate it. Well i am poor, allways have been and probably allways will be and i actually don't WANT to pirate. Money is like of no interest of mine. Anyway said and done i'm poor. Now what? Isn't there a solution for me? I have no interest in making money so i will never buy anything. When i did my stuff it was allways for free, agreed it might not have been professional but i know for a fact that if i just had take like $15-20 for my script i would have 12000x$20 you figure it out and thats a low number and i never continued to count.

ANYWAY, anyone got a suggestion on a good free ingame movie maker like Fraps?

WeGame is quite popular nowadays. It ties in with games and the website, and is a community type thing. The videos on there are mostly recorded with their software.

The critical difference between this and FRAPS is this has to be developed to support specific games (list), while FRAPS can generally record anything your graphics card is outputting.

There's also http://taksi.sourceforge.net/.

FRAPS does remain the best at what it does IMO.

Wegame is quite useful, you can record videos for web-quality and you can record HD videos, the best solution FOR SOURCE is using the in-game recorder to record your movie, play the recorded video and then record it with fraps or wegame, or something else... that will prevent high lag peaks while recording...

wrong (imho ;) ) - recording a demo, set host-time to 30 frames per second when playing the demo, enabling sourcerecorder to save every of this 30 frames to a tga file and export the sound sepperate. when start virtual dub, set the screenshots as animation (VDub does this autmatically) add the sound and you've got a full uncompressed Highquality, lag free video you can later on compress, cut, edit to your wishes.

This takes an insane amount of hard drive space. I made a sourcerecorder video in gmod of some barrels exploding, and a minute fourty seconds of footage was over 4 GB of uncompressed 800x600 tga pictures, and .wav audio. :argh: On top of that, the video skipped because Source recorder has problems with flying around in gmod apparently.

I've had problems with Gamecam. The few times I've gotten it to actually record, it's always done something screwy with the video, for example tinting the footage of Deus Ex green/blue, and making Penumbra look sepia.

FRAPS really is by far the best. I've even recorded videos of X:com just fine with it. There is literally nothing I've ever ran into that it couldn't handle.
