2d-chris Posted September 14, 2008 Report Posted September 14, 2008 English is fucked up, for every "rule" there is an exception. Far as I'm concered, writing is only a form of communication, if a point can be expressed clearly with bad grammar or spelling, who the hell cares. People often lose sight of the purpose of something in search for perfection Some people consider themselves above others beause they can write or read better, shame on them. Quote

Taylor Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Why stop there? Let’s start writing in hangul. There is an article about this every few months and it never seems to cover that English has weak phonemic orthography because of the different dialects, and how pronunciations change over the years. Writing things down phonetically doesn’t really solve this, and English doesn’t have a phonemic alphabet. Of course then there’s rewriting everything, it all seems a bit much to boost up some kids exam grades. Quote
Sindwiller Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Why stop there? Let’s start writing in hangul. How about Esperanto? 100% phonetic alphabet, 100% regular, only idiots can do it wrong! Quote
Jetsetlemming Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 This borders on becoming far too American. Fun fact: We don't do this in America. It's been suggested a few times and it's always laughed away. We have a ton of problems with our public schools but reading and writing isn't one of 'em. Disobedience, teachers having to act like babysitters, and drop-outs are a far bigger issue, and that's for inner-city schools. Quote
