Anyone know if the Steam version of Warhead comes without the DRM? I'd assume so, but just want to be sure. If it does I'll get that version.

Doubt it. I just found out that Clear Sky has a limited 5 activations too, retail and DD. And Clear Sky doesn't even remove the CD check like the EA games do!

Relax guys, we have cracks! it's totally legal if we have the original copy.

I work in the industry, so obviously I do not support piracy, but If we bought the game, we can do anything we want with it, inclusive No-DVD cracks, which I use them for years now!

May I just point out, when you buy a game, cd or film you don't buy the rights to do anything with it, other than follow the rules which most people blindly avoid. The software itself never belongs to you. Only the hardware ... and rightly so IMO.

Don't make the mistake of confusing money parted with being able to do what you want with something.

I don't give a monkey about DRM, I can't remember any siatuation in the past where I've needed to install a game more than 3 times.

Just for the record, I don't think that limiting installs is the right option, at least not a number like 3 or 5. I would do something like 10.

Yeah, that's the thing with commercial software actually. You're not allowed to modify it or bypass security checks etc. in any way unless permitted. Not that those limitations are bad. They're reasonable in most of the cases (note: it wasn't like that until 15 years ago or so).

So you throw away all your games after a year? Interesting.

Limiting the number of installs to a hard limit is a bullshit thing to do no matter what the number, because as some people online have rightly described it, that's just renting the game then- you can use it for X amount of times and then no longer. I don't have a problem with Warhead's version of unlimited installs with 5 machines it can be installed on, but a single set limit of max installs ala Spore and Clear Sky is ridiculous.

Also the rules outlined in an EULA are not legally binding. The publisher can't sue you or get you arrested for breaking them- simply break the "contract" under which you bought the game, for example by banning you for something like WoW, or Valve VAC banning someone. For a single player game cracking it would circumvent any only checks anyway.

Excessive DRM is a bad thing no matter how you slice it. Even for customers you convince to buy the game but crack it once they buy it it can lead to issues with bugs and crash issues introduced from the crack being blamed on the game- and nobody's going to believe you if you say "Those people crashing, they're PIRATES! The legit game works fine, honest!". This has happened for Ubisoft, and I believe a few other developers. Ubi actually claimed they intentionally introduced instability when the DRM is circumvented, which is one of the dumbest things ever.

Edit for source:

In addition to lost sales as a direct result of piracy, the publisher also claimed its reputation was hurt by the leak as well. Ubisoft says that it included a bug in the prerelease Assassin's Creed for security reasons that would cause the game to crash partway through. The bug was supposedly removed from the retail edition, but a mix of negative reviews of the leaked, bug-equipped pirated version of the game and legitimate reviews of the retail edition created customer confusion and caused "irreparable harm" to its reputation, Ubisoft said.

I've seen this 'you're only renting it' argument thrown around a lot, and I think it's important to bear in mind that EA will give you more activations if you phone them. This process is imperfect and should be a free phone number, but it still invalidates the rental argument. At no point will you ever be permanently unable to use your game.

EA aren't crazy enough to slam an unconditional 5-install limit — it's just meant to be an inconvenience. Unfortunately the only people this inconveniences are the legal buyers, because piraters just circumvent it altogether. So once again the age-old argument that DRM only hurts the legitimate consumers stands true.

It might be worth noting that Windows has this same system, in that after several installations on different computers (Or is it just one nowadays?) you have to phone Microsoft for a new activation.

this is true, this is so true. even if you're using windows it does not belong to you, only the hardware in your pc do.

so

Finished Warhead earlier today. Overall, it was pretty good, the middle

frozen

portions were some of the lower points I felt, with the ending making up for it. The

train sequence

is really cool, I wouldn't have minded it even being a bit longer, definitely the most memorable part of the game. I think I enjoyed the original more though, felt like it was better paced and had more variety. I did however find myself messing around with the powers a lot more with Warhead.

Now to try out the mp a little more thoroughly.

Ok... so does setting the difficulty to the one where the enemies speak Korean also make them the most difficult? I just want them to speak Korean but keep the same difficulty, but I feel like I am really getting owned.

Hmm I asked someone at Valve if games what have install limits in retail have the same limits in the steam version.

The awnser was:

Any game specific details like this will be covered on the games page in our storefront.

I don't see any limitations mentioned on their steam games pages so I guess there aren't any.

How does it work with the retail version, do they have a warning somewhere on the box or manual?

Does the game says anything about the number of activations yo have left or anything?

Wel Steam has its own DRM / is a DRM on its own.

As for Warhead:

Still think Crytek needs to playtest more,

When in the hovercraft its not that clear where you have to go , and I got stuck looking for a exit where you meet the exosuit or whats it called .

Stuck as i got stuck under the exosuit, And stuck because I could not find a exit for my hovercraft, I think youre suposed to leave it behind there but I'm not sure...

Where I can play Valve games at normal difficulty with barely dying I quit warhead 2-3 times already because I kept dying at the same locations.

(usually when fighting against the aliens, currently stuck at the location where you have to hold out untill the tunnel extrance is rigged with explosives)

Don't notice much from the performance improvements, game still freezes quite often on my high end system with a low AA setting and the autodetect options.

The grass and trees still sway as if they are on speed or someone increased the time. Makes it look pretty fake where a very slow sway would be more subtile.

This must be me but enemy's are harder to kill then it takes for me to go down, only times a headshot works is when I get close with cammo or wtih the sniper rifle on ordinary soldiers.

As soon as there is somewhat of a distance I get a hard time killing enemy's, even when prone with the strenght mode on.

Another thing that was pretty frustrating are the frozen umbrella's in the hovercraft scene, you can knock a tree down with it, but these umbrella's are indestructible :-)

The intro video was nice and shows the players some additional tactics like 'boxing' a verhicle , in the orriginal crysis i found that out after waching the special edition content after finishing the game :)

I think the intro also shows Psycho with the speed enhancement and then switching to strength for a super jump but I can't seem to do it myself.

Haven't finished it but I think its slighty better as thye original so far, lets see how the game ends and the crysis bossfights were pretty anoying and buggy.
