Thrik Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 Interesting article here where the Kane & Lynch director discusses what it's like to have your game critically panned: http://www.gamesradar.com/f/kane-lynch- ... 2911734000 You don't often read about how developers feel in the aftermath of a game hitting the critics (which was amplified in K&L's case because of the whole GameSpot debacle), although I'm sure a lot of MapCorians have obviously personally experienced it. Also mentioned is that the movie deal is still coming along. I'd totally forgotten about that, kind of assuming it'd been shelved following the mediocre reviews. Pretty cool because whatever the quality of the game, it's hard to deny that the characters and general premise of the game were pretty cool. Quote
e-freak Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 that was a very good read - thanks for the link on the topic: I didn't buy the game allthough I really liked the demo. My personal problem was that I didn't see any advantage behind the SP as none of my friends was going to buy it and coop without someone you know isn't that much fun. No modding tools I'd know and so I sticked to the demo, played it twice and left the game there. One main problem I see with the game is the fact it had some movie-sh PR before (the concepts were just great as were the trailers) but with the Eidos-vs-Reviewers-Conspiracy and the issues with the demo that only ran on one of my 4 computers I felt it wouldn't be my kind of game - adding I'm not a big fan of the Hitman-Games as games (I like the concept but it fails entertaining me) I passed out and I heard the very same from a lot of friends. m8nkey Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 I tried the demo and thought it is the sort of game that appeals to me, especially because it's co-op. There's not enough co-op games out there. I don't let bad reviews diswaid me either. What I like is regularly at odds with what's popular. The sole reason I didn't buy Kane & Lynch was performance. The game was continually caching every few minutes regardless of what was happening. It got very irritating quickly. Quote
Jetsetlemming Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 I'm still waiting to play Kane and Lynch. A friend and I are big fans of IO games and as soon as I get a comp capable of playing it, we're gonna go through it coop. I really, really liked Freedom Fighters, it's one of my favorite games, and Kane and Lynch from the sounds of it is basically Freedom Fighters plus mercenaries and coop and swearing, so I don't see what could go wrong. Mazy Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 Good article, hadn't seen it before. I think that I probably got over all the Gerstmanngate affair faster than most other people on the team, but in general I also have more of a "get back on the horse" mentality. I'm still surprised that it's almost sold 2 million copies to date, pretty impressive considering how it looked when things where bleakest. Oh and regarding the movie, I cant say anything but looks like its got a lot of things going for it As always its probably a good idea to remain pessimistic until proven otherwise Oh and don't play the PC version, its crap D: Quote
st0lve Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 I liked the game, it was quite unpolished at a lot of points, but still, it was great and dark humor I'd guess that a couple of more months with polishing the game, it probably would have more sales and players. Or maybe not, since I recall cod4 was released some months after it, which would have made it collide with cod4, and, you just don't beat cod4... Quote
Jetsetlemming Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 Oh and don't play the PC version, its crap D: Fuuuuuuuuuuck D: D: D: After Blood Money being far and away better on PC than consoles I thought IO Was more of a PC oriented company, how'd that happen? Quote
