mjens Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Ah sweet memories (it's not a Live! beta) Quote
Fergo Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Is this game Java-based? Or Flash? Fergo Quote
-HP- Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 lol... It's Quake dude, not some java shit! you have to download a plugin, install it, and you'll have quake 3 engine running on your browser. You can full screen it, as well, obviously. Imagine it like steam running on a browser, with friends system, picking servers is very friendly and easy, it has a really detailed stats about your performance in the game, therefor if your skilled low you will never play against a pro player. I'm having a great time with it, and this got me hooked to Quake again, not sure if that's a good thing or not, but nevertheless, imho this was one of the best ideas of the last few years for Multiplayer gaming! The best part is, that this feels JUST like Quake 3 Arena does, but better! They are doing a great job tweaking this game, both graphically and game design aspects. Quote
dux Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 Be pretty sweet if more multiplayer games were like this by just opening your browser and then just play a game. Quote
Thrik Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 Yeah, I don't believe we can get a 3D game as mature as Quake working in Flash just yet. It'll be a special plug-in developed by iD themselves I imagine. With that said, the brand new Flash CS4 (and consequently Flash Player 10) has made some big leaps forward, supporting both 3D geometry much better than before and also now being able to utilise your GPU. After just a few weeks we're already seeing the first tech demos. I can very easily see games produced in Flash being a serious part of the market a few years down the line. Quote
VoodooBenshee Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 Be pretty sweet if more multiplayer games were like this by just opening your browser and then just play a game. right, Battlefield Heroes is one best example. easy downloading, easy installing, easy fast gaming - i like it too Quote
-HP- Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 btw CPMA included? No, it's not the intention of the ID team to divide the community in half. Quote
Thrik Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 Looks like people are already getting somewhere with the power of Flash player 10. Check out this partial remake of Doom: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/470460 Quote
-HP- Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 viewtopic.php?f=23&t=12847 Btw, I have 2 invites! Anyone interested PM me asap, these things tend to disappear overnight. Quote
Cybbe Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 Flash has come a LONG way. Their recent rework of actionscript has opened a lot of doors for the potential of flash. That being said, there's no reason it couldn't have been java. If you know how, you could just as well whip it up there, but when it's ID, they really are better off doing what they do best. Java has a nasty habit of long loading times and slow speeds. I saw a project with making quake 2 for java, but still being in beta it was lacking a bit of functionality, and it wasn't really up to speed, so I imagine there'd be some work to do with Q3. I can't wait to get my hands on Quake Live EDIT: Hoshit, just saw HP's post. PM sent, and here's hoping! :x Quote
VoodooBenshee Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 got my betakey yesterday and ... shit, q3 lives forever what about posting the ql nicks for friend invites? << VoodooBenshee Quote
Hourences Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 I just got one, but invites is greyed out for me. If that changes I will post here. I think it is suprinsing how solid and good the game really is, how almost 10 years later it still stands and provides a better online experience than most of these next gen games. And I am not saying that because I am nostalgic or anything, I actually never played Q3 back in the days, only the demo. Quote
