Steppenwolf Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oy8lgBZI0mQ When i was a kid they used to show this old czech movie on TV at least once a year. I remember how fascinated i was by the art style (nowadays i would call it like that) and the animations. It was such an immersive way to tell the story to a kid! The whole visuals of the movie are based on old illustrations from a Jules Verne book. It's mind boggling how they were able to do something like that in 1958. It often looks like its done with the help of CGI and composed with help of computers. But this stuff didnt exist back then. What an inspiring piece of art! Quote
Pericolos0 Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 Wow this is really incredible, i can't believe I've never heard of it. The effects are very inventive and extremely inspiring, exactly what a jules verne movie should be! Quote
Warby Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 this indeed looks amazing is there a version with english subtitles somewhere ?! Quote
Zacker Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 Woah, that's impressive! I can't see where the painting stops and the live action footage begins. I guess it was done with some sort of matte painting? Quote
Sentura Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fabulo ... ules_Verne allow me the arrogance of spoiling it for you Quote
Minos Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 Very nice stuff indeed. Too bad there are no english subtitles and the video quality is poor :/ Quote
2d-chris Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 A work of true art, you know I'm waiting for a game to replicate this old style of film making. Quote
