Steppenwolf Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 I bought this game on steam yesterday for only a couple of dollars. It's worth every cent. Totally loving it so far. Definately one of the best RPG's that i have played. It feels like a TES: Oblivion that is focused on quality over quantity. The game world is rather small but its so dense and complex. I have played estimated 10 hours so far but i have only been in the top three dungeon levels of eight and there is still a lot of stuff to explore and to experiment with only on these three. The game is supposed to be the inofficial "Ultima Underworld 3". Totally true. All the good memories from when i played UO 1 & 2 come back. The atmosphere is great, story is good, the puzzles are a lot better then Oblivion for example and there is so many secrets to explore its fantastic. The gfx and sound are obviously dated but after only a couple of minutes you will not notice or care anymore. Quote
Zeta Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 UU scared the crap out of me as a kid, when I watched my dad play. Quote
Quakis Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 Picked this up a month back, yet to play it though. Got too much stuff on my queue right now. Stepphen's post has caused me to move it up the list however. Quote
2d-chris Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 Neato, will have to check this out. It's very true about dated gfx after a few mins, I played AOE again a few months ago, at first I really thought i'd have to stop playing but then after 30 mins it looked nice again S: It's weird you know. e-freak Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 played it a while back and couldn't be bothered to play past the first 10 minutes - guess it just not my kind of game but it's succesor (Dark Messiah) is awesome (just because you mentioned Oblivion - had a lot of discussions about the pros and cons of DM in comparsion to Oblivion) Quote
Freak Posted August 1, 2008 Report Posted August 1, 2008 i played arx, too, but i got stuck anywhere at the end of the game but really, this game is great Quote
Steppenwolf Posted August 2, 2008 Author Report Posted August 2, 2008 but it's succesor (Dark Messiah) is awesome Dark Messiah is not the succesor of Arx Fatalis! They are completely different games. Arx is a classic RPG with open world, complex stats, complex magic system and challenging puzzles, while Dark Messiah is a linear action game with only a couple of dumbed down RPG Elements. The only similarities are in some of the designs since its done by the same developer. Quote
e-freak Posted August 3, 2008 Report Posted August 3, 2008 yeah I intentend the term "succesor" to be the following game by the developer. Quote
