Pomperi Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 m8nkey: Based on the grunge level of these signs, I'm guessing you're going for a really old look. Keep in mind that aging paint usually cracks and fades before they reach that level of dirt, unless they're located near muddy ground or withstanded a nuclear war. If you're planning on reworking them a bit, try desaturating the colors a bit and break up the perfect surface with some crackled texture, revealing the material under the paint. Looks good none the less, but some more unique wear would be sweet. Here are a few textures I made yesterday for practice. Could be a texture pack if I put enough time on it, but I it doesn't seem like it at the moment. Quote
Psyshokiller Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 Sweet stuff Pomperi. How much handpainting was involved in the second texture? I ask because you once said you handpaint most of your textures. Quote
Pomperi Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 Yeah, you're right, I usually handpaint my textures, but this one is an exception. The other two on the other hand are mostly done by hand, which is pretty obvious, but I guess that's why you asked Quote
Psyshokiller Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 Indeed, that's the reason I asked. Would be hell of a task to paint this. Can you show us the normalmaps aswell? (if you made some) Quote
Meotwister Posted January 5, 2008 Report Posted January 5, 2008 starting to get back into texture making after a long while. Quote
m8nkey Posted January 5, 2008 Report Posted January 5, 2008 Calling upon my vast wealth of inexperience, I'd say that's looking pretty good Meotwister. The moss looks convincing to me. What's that shot taken in? It's difficult to see the texture of the bricks. Pomperi: Wish I could provide some CC as useful as yours but all I can say is damn that look nice. I'm actually aiming for only very moderate weathering and after reading your comment and looking at my WIP again I realise it's completely inappropriate. It's for a relatively clean city map. In my head I guess I thought pollution would contribute most to the weathering but considering it's not industrial I think desaturation of colour maybe with some moderately crackled paint, as you suggested, would be a good start. Meotwister Posted January 5, 2008 Report Posted January 5, 2008 Just a simple render in max. I suppose I could make the bricks stand out more. Quote
General Vivi Posted January 5, 2008 Report Posted January 5, 2008 quick desert test for some textures i made for my on going nmrih map. ..... so many projects.... i love them all. Quote
Meotwister Posted January 5, 2008 Report Posted January 5, 2008 I like the grass/dirt one but the gravely one isnt as convincing. Perhaps downplay the gravel and make the dirt/sand more obvious? lookin good though. Quote
⌐■_■ Posted January 6, 2008 Report Posted January 6, 2008 looks good! what program are you using to render it? Quote
e-freak Posted January 6, 2008 Report Posted January 6, 2008 Valve said TF2 was going to be realistic... it isn't going to be anything like TF even if it does see the light of day Sorry for OT but I clicked acciedently on page 1... o_O Quote
D3ads Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 This means that *gasp*, Taylor was wrong! Quote
