Method Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 Thanks guys. Your words are much appriciated. Something I made last night. I looked at Gears of War screenshots and noticed they used wood a lot. Hence I decided to create some for me. -Method Quote
SKULLHOZER Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 Texture dump... Some refraction* textures I recently created for use in the Source engine: *Well, the first one isn't a refraction texture. Still, it's new, so there. Quote
Pericolos0 Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 very cool stuff, but i think you need to work on your spec maps. Alot of these look like they are covered in slime or plastic (atleast from the renders you showed) Quote
Psy Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 Method...that actually looks like the mansion from GoW. Quote
Quakis Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 The above textures are very nice, some good eye candy while scrolling down - but I have to agree about the specular maps on some of them, some bricks feel like plastic. Quote
Method Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 Psycho: It's actually one of the test rooms, I throw stuff in and test new textures. Although I was going with that arch/brick design as seen in GoW. Anyone knows if Epic released any sample textures to look at their quality? -Method Quote
SKULLHOZER Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 Yeah, it looks way too shiny. That's just how I rendered them in XSI though (still playing around with the settings), none of them were rendered with spec maps. I should really render them in a game engine like Doom 3 (Q4 or Prey, perhaps?) PS: Method, I love your texture tutorial, immeasurably helpful! That wood texture is ace, too. Quote

But as you might know, Gears of War will be released for PC this year. EDIT: and it will ship with UnrealEd afaik. Quote
Method Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 SKULLHOZER: Glad it was useful man Aevirex: Yea, I plan to analyze those textures and how they implemented them into the levels. Looking at the screenshots, I can recreate several areas in Doom 3 engine, but some things I would like to take a closer look at how they've done it. That's pretty much how I grow in skill, I look at things I like and try to create content of similar quality. -Method Quote
dissonance Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 wow, skull, that's a lot. i like most of them (except the brick/plaster combo; the hightmap seems exaggerated), but i have to ask: how long did you spend polishing them? they're shiny as hell! Quote
Method Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 FMPONE: That's Quake 4 (Doom3 Engine). Textures are 512 x 512. -Method Quote
FMPONE Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 Well its quite fantastic, you need to keep it up then port it to UE3 Do you know of the roboblitz editor? You might as well get started now ;D Keep it up man. Quote
Method Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 Thanks man. It's a simple test room. I'm not interested in Unreal. id tech for life, homie. Ya heard! -Method Quote
