Pericolos0 Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 dont worry squad, i'm making the textures so you can use them with various types of brushwork and architecture, not just repeat them over the wall for example you can put a window model like this on the arch: (wip) Quote
Skyshi Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 I love it! But a bit more color variations will make it look perfectly A texture I did today: No photo ressource, no ref, not tileable (? does that word exist ) Edit: There's still a lack of balancing the contrast and sharpness.. Quote
kleinluka Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 Looks good for being 100% handpainted The color is good......but (the big but) I'm not sure if I like it. It looks very rough and greasy. It's hard to read. The shadows dont give it much depth because they are very soft and loosely placed which results in the bricks looking blurred without a clear shape. Also you seem to have used pure black for doing the shading which makes it look a bit muck. Good start tho. You should post more here @Peri: pretty kool, even if it DOES look like cork. You need more fancy nancy twirls on the green to really give it more of an arab look. They like putting colorful painted trims and stuff on their buildings. Something like this maybe, only not quite as crazy: Quote
DaanO Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 Peri it looks really cool when applied to architecture. A thing that has to be said is that it looks really computergame'ish. Personally, with an engine this advanced, i am more interested in trying to make something look as real as possible. Anyway, good stuff. Edit: oh, didn't see klein's last reply. I totally agree. That would be awesome. Quote
Pericolos0 Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 thanks for the comments and i'm keeping that pic for ref usage klein.. i like the windows ;p i know it can be more realistic but ultra realism isnt really my goal here. I just want to create something that looks pretty. Normal mapping in source is still pretyy crappy looking imo, i'm only gonna use it on textures with bigger geometric details like rocks and tiles. maybe i'll make the paint on this one abit more complicated, dont know yet. I want to keep it simple and old school ctf map styled i think Quote
KungFuSquirrel Posted June 8, 2005 Report Posted June 8, 2005 i know it can be more realistic but ultra realism isnt really my goal here. I just want to create something that looks pretty. Looks like you're doing well, then! I wasn't quite sure what I thought when I first saw it (though I immediately approved of the grid-based layout ) but seeing on geometry really sold me on it. Eager to see where you take this. Quote
curman Posted June 15, 2005 Report Posted June 15, 2005 hay hay g-unit I kinda suck at texturing, but I was doing a map and I had to make up some poster designs to fit the mood, so heres one I tried. I have yet to successfully to torn edges and whatnot, I tried a few times but nothing looked too realistic. Quote
Campaignjunkie Posted June 15, 2005 Report Posted June 15, 2005 Some "desert palace" type textures. (mostly photosourced from Mayang / stock.xchng) Yes, I know I am shameless. Quote
Zacker Posted June 15, 2005 Report Posted June 15, 2005 I like making thorn edges so I also had to try with this one:) It's just a quickie made solely by painting a bit with some of the special brushes. Quote
Kreigore Posted June 15, 2005 Report Posted June 15, 2005 I had to destroy it! Sorry, I just couldnt resist! Quote
curman Posted June 15, 2005 Report Posted June 15, 2005 Tis not bad, but it's not what I was lookin for. It looks a lil' unrealistic, I mean this isnt totally destroyed, really I just meant corners and maybe few tears. This looks like a bomb hit it D: Quote
kleinluka Posted June 16, 2005 Report Posted June 16, 2005 peel the paper around some of the edges Quote
