-Stratesiz- Posted October 31, 2004 Report Posted October 31, 2004 All the magazines that have reviewed HL2 so far have been issued with special exclusive rights in return for biased reviews giving superlatives a new meaning. The real reviewers won't get a chance to play HL2 until 15th. PC Gamer is the source of all evil!~ Quote
GrayFox Posted October 31, 2004 Report Posted October 31, 2004 Calm down with the conspiracy theories, Stratty... Quote
FrieChamp Posted October 31, 2004 Report Posted October 31, 2004 He got a point though. The (2nd) biggest German mag about PC games started to boycot these first-hands-on reviews which are made in the office of the developer. There definately is a difference between playing a game "at home" for days or even weeks or playing it for 1-2 days while the creators stand next to you (who try to influence the player by emphasizing good and neglecting bad aspects of their game). So as a player, I must admit, the recent trend to invite writers for reviews is a step backwards in my opinion. Quote
-Stratesiz- Posted November 1, 2004 Report Posted November 1, 2004 This leads to the fact that they most likely won't even have time to play the whole game thru, which explains the ridiculously flat reviews that have no content whatsoever. Games are big business today, but it's getting a tad out of hand in my opinion. Quote
Tequila Posted November 1, 2004 Report Posted November 1, 2004 I really don't think it's anything as sinister as that, Strat. Reputable mags, especially Edge, would never review it without completing the entire game; it just isn't their policy, no matter what the benefits. It sounds like this German magazine was in the minority rather than the majority in the paperback world, and as such were rather vocal about it. Quote
