How exactly did you not get the job, Skdr? Your TF2 work is fantastic, on a par with Valve's stuff... Why did they turn you down?

I think I did quite well in the interviews. I was pleased after the whole deal but I was given some feedback after that. It's not about my skills to build good looking and playing levels, they didn't question those at all, it's about the whole process behind the ideas and Valve is known from their concept of it.

Like I said, I learned a lot and this was my first step.

Ah I see. Well as you said, you will have learned a lot, and I'm sure your next map will greatly benefit from what you've learned at Valve today. Commiserations to you though.

Any idea what you are going to work on next?

Could you maybe tell us some things you have learned there ?

I am quit interested.

I bet you are but it's not something I can just write down here and you'll learn it.

Sorry to hear that you didn't got the job, but if they flew you in and all, that definitly means you are on the right track :)

I am sure they, or someone else, will hire you at one point or another.

mh sad to hear that you didn't get your foot really in there. thinking about it, it might turn into a big disappointment when you finally get there and after a few months it turns out to be a crap hole. conclusion: never try to join one of the "big glorious companies" at all costs. better you get some experience and advance in smaller steps and maybe become the lead of a different project/company.

and tbh: valve sure gets so many CVs and portfolios a day, they can pick out the raisins.

just my 2 cents
