twiz Posted August 8, 2008 Report Posted August 8, 2008 Saw it once and thought it was pretty damn good. Saw it a second time about 2 weeks later, and now that the hype for me has faded.. its not very good. I think batman begins is a better movie. Yes, the joker was played absolutely superbly, but that is the only performance in the entire movie I would rate above "good", except maybe lucius fox and alfred, but they're very small parts. Gordon is also played well. The writing was annoying for everyone else. Two-face, batman/bruce, and rachel, very poor in my opinion. Everything that could have been a metaphor was so blatantly thrown in my face 15 times over it just completely deflated the entire movie. The action sequences were okay at best, but I'm someone who is very critical of high action shit. I could lay out a list of things I didn't like, but I'm too lazy to type. Right now I'd give the movie about a 7 out of 10, and thats with a curve due to my first impression. About 3 of those points are just for the Joker. Heath is truly a joy to watch in that role. I don't think I'll ever watch that movie again. Things just seemed to.. happen. The movie didn't seem to have any kind of rhythm or flow, no movement, it just kinda did things. Quote

dissonance Posted August 8, 2008 Report Posted August 8, 2008 Furthermore, someone needs to hand Mister Wayne a fucking throat lozenge or something. Quote
Erratic Posted August 8, 2008 Report Posted August 8, 2008 Furthermore, someone needs to hand Mister Wayne a fucking throat lozenge or something. Far above anything else, that's my biggest complaint. Nearly every line Bale delivered as Batman made me cringe. I still think it's a great movie of course, saw it for a second time a few days ago. Quote
Zacker Posted August 10, 2008 Report Posted August 10, 2008 It wasn't that much better than Batman Begins, but then again that was probably the best superhero movie ever when it came out. Really great movie but not the worlds best movie imo. As everyone else says, Heath Ledger did a great job playing The Joker. 9/10 Quote
Ginger Lord Posted August 10, 2008 Report Posted August 10, 2008 Great film all round, my only gripe is like other Bales Batman voice is slightly dubious. I'm glad Two-Face came and went, he was cool for the CGI and look of his face but after the 6th or so time of flipping the coin trick he became boring. Yes he wants his revenge, yes he flips a coin, has he got anything more to flesh out with? No. Interesting to see if a third comes around, logic would say yes but Nolan hasnt signed up for a third film yet and who could be the bad guy? The Riddler is a lame joker who's own riddles lead to his demise, the Penguin is a fat mafia boss...wow...Mr Freeze is lame and Catwoman isnt much better. This means either we're going for a lesser known character, lameness, or Two-face not actually being dead. 9.5 / 10 Much better than Batman Begins. Quote
FrieChamp Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 I had to wait one month to be member of the club and to read this thread, the movie is finally out in Germany and thank god the cineplex of my choice provides screenings in English. The waiting was worth it though, I had high expectations, I think after sleeping it over for one night though, I can say that it's the best Batman movie yet. Strangely enough, I thought the weakest moments of the movie were starring Batman himself. The overall atmosphere and setting of the new movies is much more serious and realistic than movies from older times, which makes Batman in his suit, sonar technology goggles and funny voice look out of place. I mean even the villains, albeit crazy, come across as rather "human". Batman himself takes almost a secondary role when it's shown what goes on with all the other characters. I thought it was a bit lame how 2-face got injured though, they were already outside the building, suddenly a flame catches him...I don't know, acid or something would have been cooler. Still two thumbs up, I would watch it again any time! Quote
Pericolos0 Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 just saw it, i think it was allright. I had very high expctations for it though do i was a bit dissapointed. I loved the parts with joker, and the action was awesome! But I found most of the movie very stretched, boring and confusing . I liked batman begins a lot more. Quote
Minos Posted August 25, 2008 Report Posted August 25, 2008 Saw it yesterday and loved it, it does live up to the hype. It's way better than Batman Begins in my opinion! The only thing I disliked was Gotham City's looks. Where are the Art Deco/Art Nouveau buildings/statues? In this version it looks a lot more like NYC or Metropolis than Gotham city. Quote
e-freak Posted August 25, 2008 Report Posted August 25, 2008 It looks like Chicago coz it is chicago... Quote
Warby Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 loved: + heat heist opening + aron eckhard / harvey dent / two face + the pen magic trick + the 2 ship bomb setup - batmans telephone stalker voice should not be used for anything more than a one liner. - jokers makeup doesn't look like scars ... what the hell are the people talking about - cellphone sonar mega x ray machine build by bruce wayne himself without the knowledge of lucious fox .... yeah right ... - kattie holms > maggie gylenhall - what was the point of this letter that alfred burns ? everybody guessed or operated on the assumption of the content already anyway ... - metric fuck tons of timing/logic problems all in all it was over hyped but still a good movie 8/10 on par but not better than "begins" Quote
D3ads Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 Pffft, this film wipes the floor with Begins. Quote
Sindwiller Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 Pffft, this film wipes the floor with Begins. Word. I didn't expect too much but I was surprised how good it is... still, it lacks substance like all Hollywood movies Quote
dissonance Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 - jokers makeup doesn't look like scars ... what the hell are the people talking aboutCompletely agree. - kattie holms > maggie gylenhallCompletely disagree. Quote
