Saw it today, simply brilliant film. The Joker was brilliant, Heath really played the role perfectly in my opinion. Two-Face was also quite impressive,

i was jsut a bit disappointed he was written in and out so quickly.

Yeah same here... They really could have developed his character a lot more.

Looking back, I think they tried to cram too much in to this film, and as a result it seems very rushed towards the end. I sort of wish they'd have kept Two-face as a villain for the third Batman film in this series, he was so damn creepy to look at... It would have been nice to see his character develop in to a sort of crazy, 'fallen knight'-type character, hell bent on malicious revenge. He was like that in this film, but it would have been nice to have seen that motif developed more.

The Joker, however, was perfect. I loved Heath Ledger's portrayal, it was really refreshing to watch. I think the dark humour was perfect; I was worried they would try too hard to make the Joker funny, and as a result, he would be a little unbelievable, but they didn't.

Go go third Batman film!

I watched it last night, and it really was awesome. Not much to add to what's already been said really, but anybody else think it was pretty damn brutal for a 12A? The pencil "magic trick" and the occasions of putting his knife in people's mouths were really quite violent and nasty I thought. I know it doesn't ever really show much of the violence but the thought is sometimes worse than the visuals anyway. Not that I'm complaining it should have been rated higher or anything, was just quiet taken aback.

Aye, definitely a good movie. But I gotta admit that its gotten so over hyped by now that its beyond grotesque at this point. #1 on the IMDB Top 250? Whaaaat? I actually felt that a lot of the movie wasn't very well paced, it felt like they nearly had enough material for 2 movies, and at points the editing almost reminded me of Spiderman 3. Now obviously this is a film in a completely different league, and I've obviously bought in too much on the hype but it really isn't quite as extraordinary as everybody made it out to be. No matter what had happened that, then Heath Ledger gave an absolutely magic performance that actually deserves the huge praise its been getting, but as an overall movie it was just a notch over alright for me :)

I found it much improved over the first at least, which I found even more bloated than this one. There's a lot more focus with the The Joker being the primary villian and all the other mob bosses being very secondary. In Batman Begins, you had villians stashed all over the damn place, all of them seperate from each other, with their own goals etc. Was pretty confusing thinking back to it and I saw it multiple times.

Though it doesn't avoid the problems from the original completely with, as mentioned, Harvey Dent being brought in and out rather quickly and the plot in general being rather complicated (maybe to a fault, I don't really think so, however). For what they wrote into the script, they handled it all very well, despite the intricate plot, I don't remember being confused too much, and if I was, it was temporary.

I do agree, however, that it would be interesting to see what they could do with less emphasis on the "holy fuck lets put everything we can in this" approach.

i do actually think that harvey dent was put in/out of the plot rather deliberately. why?

well think about it: what does two-face actually have? a coin and an unhealthy taste for vengeance. nothing more. he has no sinister plot to take over the world, he does not care about the world. all he cares about is his loved one, whose death he blames the world (herein the police, and to a much lesser extent, the joker). there is nothing more to him.

sometimes things are rooted deeper than they seem

By that same argument Sentura, what does the Joker have...? He had no sinister plan to take over the world, and he also cares about nothing. I thought the idea of Two Face could have been developed a lot more, he was such a cool character.

the joker has no rules; that is his trait. as he said in the movie, he is an agent of chaos, and it is explained why he does things just for the hell of it. the chaos manifestations he creates cannot be compared to flicking a coin every time to decide a person's fate. can you not see this?

Of course I can see that, I just think that Two Face has a very cool character/personality for a villain as well. Though he wouldn't have been very good as a main villain against Batman.

neither against batman, nor against anyone else than whoever he was plotting his revenge against. just because he is very cool doesn't mean there is much depth to him.
