General Vivi Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 Also worth mentioning, all the original IP's on that list, save for Left 4 Dead, were said to have 'underperformed' by their publisher (Mirror's Edge, Dead space). Hmm, I wonder why? It certainly wasn't a quality issue, in my opinion... Yeah... people are scared of new Ip's......it sucks... me/ is afraid the world will stop making them because dev's can't afford the lose. Quote
Furyo Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 A summer release, to me, means you don't even want to go head to head with the fall releases of the year... wait, what? Looking at it from both a consumer and publisher perspective, I can't see how funneling all the big releases into the same 2 month time span helps anyone. Whenever a Halo or Call of Duty is set to come out, stay the fuck out of its way. It's nothing but smart to try and avoid those periods, IMO. Because going by the movies industry standard: summer = people going away on holiday, enjoying the life outside = entertainment that goes with it. Movies have followed that trend for years, with very few exceptions. Applied to games, especially one that comes out on consoles and not handhelds, this tells me no one will even think of getting it before they come back from their holiday and its price tag has already been slashed in half. I"m absolutely in favor of less games cramping up the stage during the holiday season, but summer is still the one period I would consider any console game to perform less. Something like September through to June are all good time frames. Yet as Kotaku mentioned it again yesterday for this week's releases, spring is coming and the drought of new releases comes to a stop finally... Quote
Jetsetlemming Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 When I was a kid I always played and bought far more games in the summer than any other time since that was when I had more free time. Plus my birthday (and thus birthday money) was in the summer, so that probably helped. Quote
Chunks Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 Fallout 3 ain't no original IP. And it did well, supposedly. Fallout 3 is an interesting case... It might as well have had been a new IP because let's face it, the average 'gamer' hasn't heard of or played any of the previous titles and has no idea about the franchise. To me it is the same phenomenon that made bioshock a success as well. I can't definitively say what made both of those titles a success (aside from the fact that they were AAA titles) but in my opinion it all came down to marketing and hype. I also think that EA marketed Mirror's Edge and Dead Space in a more unconventional way... maybe unconventional isn't the right term. With both titles they tried to create a backstory or canon before the game actually launched via short films/comics/etc. even though the whole ip was unknown before it's release. It seems like they just jumped the gun and then fell short when it came to following through. I am kind've rambling and a bit drunk, I hope that makes sense. Also, to give a completely blunt opinion of wolfenstein in terms of what I have seen so far is that it should have come out at least a year ago. However if it has the same essence and feel that RTCW had, I am sure I will enjoy it. Quote
Furyo Posted March 31, 2009 Report Posted March 31, 2009 Back on topic with Brian Crecente's impressions....which so far are about what I feared... http://kotaku.com/5190899/wolfenstein-p ... o-the-veil Quote
-HP- Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 http://www.gametrailers.com/player/48059.html pre-rendered teaser of some sorts Quote
Warby Posted April 18, 2009 Report Posted April 18, 2009 indeed that was pretty awesome more indiana jones/uncharted rather than call of duty wise choice ! unfortunately i feel the game will be nothing like this trailer ! Quote
Mazy Posted April 18, 2009 Report Posted April 18, 2009 Yeah pretty cool trailer. I still think its stupid to call it Wolfenstein since it really doesn't look like it has anything to do with the older games (at least from what I've seen). Then again I guess it wouldn't be wise to start a new WW2 IP in this day and age. Quote
Jetsetlemming Posted April 18, 2009 Report Posted April 18, 2009 Are they sure this isn't a prequel? BJ seems a lot younger and cocksure than in RtcW, where he was more grizzled and stoic. This BJ seems to have seen one too many Indiana Jones movies. Quote
Rick_D Posted April 21, 2009 Report Posted April 21, 2009 wow are you pricks finishing ripping the shit out of this game yet... rofl  Quote
Jetsetlemming Posted April 21, 2009 Report Posted April 21, 2009 More like gentle mocking. It's a Wolfenstein, it CAN'T not be at the very least fun pulp entertainment, but there are some nits to pick for everything, and it's just as much if not moreso a bad habit to get offended by nit picking over small stuff than it is to do so. FrieChamp Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/59628 This is...looking really cool to be honest! In its own crazy Wolfenstein type of way! Those graphics have definitely come a long way. Quote
-HP- Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 Cool, good watch... Yeah. And it's coming out next month, can't wait. Although I'm a bit sceptical about that whole green-world mode, we'll see... Probably gonna pre-order it soon! Oh, and this game better have sniping, like a whole lot of sniping! That's one of the points that made RTCW so badass for me. Quote
D3ads Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 Gotta agree that was fantastic, makes you wonder why they released those shots with the photo-raped tiled normals before, they were blatently placeholders! Not sure about the green world also but hopefully it'll all come together, Raven have a great track record so the franchise is in good hands Quote
