GregBoffins Posted June 3, 2011 Report Posted June 3, 2011 ":19jzpj4y]isn't this game supposed to have awesome, high resolution textures? i thought that was the whole idea of "megatextures"? The textures are really high res actually, and you can tell everything is stamped uniquely and textured uniquely. Man, it's amazing the amount of work being put on this environments. The idea isn't to have high resolution textures. The idea is to have uniquely textured environments, and to have far less draw counts increasing overall performance (because textures are all on one or more large texture sheets, like 128,000x128,000). Serenius Posted June 3, 2011 Report Posted June 3, 2011 At Quakecon they demoed all 3 versions simultaneously. The PC version really shows off the megatextures way better than the 360 version, which is what you see in all these videos. Quote

Looks like the interact prompts are "E" in the latest vid (only watched low-res) - looks like the PC version. This game appears to get more and more generic every time they show it. I got kind of angry when the gate dropped so the enemies could do their scripted jump in animations before the gate magically opens so another guy can somersault into the room for no good reason. Looks even slower than D3, too. Quote

Skjalg Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 very nice interview indeed. one of the best from carmack. absolutely worth your time. Quote
knj Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 shit, i don't know what to think about this game, i'm not like "WOW RAGE!" i'm more like, "ehh rage". It looks good but it doesn't feel fresh and for me it isn't interesting in terms of buying this, for now Quote
-HP- Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 Not surprised myself, but anyway, rage has been postponed to Oct. http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/3515 ... ctober.php Quote
dux Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 id Software confirmed last year that it would no longer be licensing its internally-developed game engines to other companies outside of parent company ZeniMax Media, including its new id Tech 5 engine. I didn't know this. That sucks. Quote
deceiver Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 It's not like companies raced to license IDTech4 anyways , mostly their partners. Quote
2d-chris Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 I really am enraged by the delay to this entertainment product. Quote
Jake Gilla Posted June 12, 2011 Report Posted June 12, 2011 This looks excellent. That Carmack interview was great, I learned more about graphics tech in that 20 minutes than in the last 10 years. Has anyone seen what the mod tools are gonna look like? I've never done any mapping for an id game, looks like Rage would be as good a game as any to start. Quote
