Taylor Posted September 17, 2013 Report Posted September 17, 2013 Good. Doesn't this mean they can now normalise some of the bloat and not split Inferno into a thousand difficulties as well? They might have to kill paragon too, but that's fine, killing that is also 100% beneficial. Quote
Sprony Posted September 18, 2013 Report Posted September 18, 2013 If the auction house is shut down there's really no reason to keep it online only. Quote
Taylor Posted September 18, 2013 Report Posted September 18, 2013 (edited) While the auction house is the real reason for sure, if I remember correctly the official reason was preventing people for playing 50 hours, deciding they want online, and having to start over. Also, I have seen Diablo's lack of offline used as a reason to play Path of Exile and that's always amused me Edit: Ah, new post on Rock Paper Shotgun: Despite Auction House Removal, Diablo Staying Online-Only Edited September 18, 2013 by Taylor Quote
Sprony Posted September 18, 2013 Report Posted September 18, 2013 If I remember correctly it was against hacks/cheats/goldfarmers/etc. One of the reasons why they came up with the auction house as well. Most people are very happy with this news but I'm just wondering: How will you trade when the auction house is gone? How are you going to find the items you are looking for? Quote
Taylor Posted September 18, 2013 Report Posted September 18, 2013 Ultimately I feel Diablo 2 and 3 don’t have much appeal as single player games themselves, and this is more about the ability to play with save hacks and create modifications, so both sides are being a bit disingenuous I guess. It’s a valid point about trading. Honestly the problem with the Auction House was not that it allowed people to trade items at all, the problem was it attempted to override the real-money side of item selling and game content was tuned so Blizzard could make money from it. This is why Inferno was a massively broad gear-check, all item statistics scale flat with no limit, and one-in-a-million rares are the item focus. Quote
dux Posted September 18, 2013 Report Posted September 18, 2013 Wow so they finally admit it. That video made my eyes roll so hard they fell out of my skull. "at the core of the diablo experience is the promise of killing shit to get shit and the auction house took that away and made it way to convenient to get gear blah blah." Well no fucking shit it does but you added it to the game anyway. This is why the majority of us hated it. Geez I miss Blizzard North. FMPONE, Grinwhrl, Sprony and 6 others 9 Quote
ChopperDave Posted September 18, 2013 Report Posted September 18, 2013 Better late than never. I may pick this up again, but given that it's not going offline 'til next year I guess I'll stick with Torchlight 2.On a side note: did anyone here pick up the console version? The demo was pretty solid but a I played the PC version extensively so I felt like I was just re-treading familiar territory and wasn't convinced I should get it. Quote
-HP- Posted September 18, 2013 Report Posted September 18, 2013 Console version plays really nicely! It's a lot of fun, specially with 2 player local co-op! Quote
ZZZ Posted September 18, 2013 Report Posted September 18, 2013 (edited) RMT in ARPG somewhat resembles CCG (card games). Good gear is extremely rare and values more in AH. Extremely powerful, sometimes broken, cards are made rare and cost more in the black market too. But, this is where I think RMTAH in a game breaks it: in CCG nobody goes to a store and buys 100 packs, expecting luck to give them a pro deck, it's all about trade and black market. In an ARPG game, how can one million hours of farming compare to buying that gear for, say, 10$ ? Edited September 18, 2013 by 0kelvin Quote
Minos Posted September 18, 2013 Report Posted September 18, 2013 Dux, I'm not sure if you are trolling or not and I gave up trying to figure out why you are so hostile towards D3 a long time ago, but Mapcore is supposed to be a fun and chill place to hang out. If you have criticism for the game do it like everyone else and post in a respectful manner, but if you want to be an asshole just for the sake of it there are better places for that (EOT, kotaku, neogaf, etc). -HP- 1 Quote
-HP- Posted September 18, 2013 Report Posted September 18, 2013 Guess haters gonna hate, cos you know... it's hip to do so. Quote
PogoP Posted September 18, 2013 Report Posted September 18, 2013 Well you two work on the game so you're bound to not want negative words said about your game, which is understandable but the fact is that a lot of people do not like Diablo 3 because of core gameplay decisions that were made during its initial production. I don't really want to get into it because it's been a long time since I last played it, but all the while that I was playing it, I felt a bit cheated. It was fun and looked gorgeous, sure, but it felt a bit sterile and every playthrough was the same. It definitely did not have a great deal of replayability, which is the main pull of the Diablo series. Oh, and of course the auction house pretty much broke all the item grinding because you could just buy it all on the AH instead! I guess it's Dux's choice of words that got you riled up though.. Don't take it to heart, he's just a passionate fan of the Diablo series Now let's all make friends! Quote

Totally dude, I agree that there are a lot of legitimate criticism about the game and I'm all for discussion, I just don't want Mapcore to turn into Kotaku... we are more mature than that. Anyways, no hard feelings! I'm not on D3 but I know the team pretty well and I know how passionate they are about the game. It's been more than a year that the game has been released and they are still patching it all the time. Thanks to all the great feedback from the community the game is in a much better shape now, so if you have strong suggestions or feelings I'd recommend to also post them on the official forums Quote
