Zeta Posted June 15, 2008 Report Posted June 15, 2008 I've been watching a box head modelling tutorial today where they guy (using silo - which btw looks like a really fluid workflow) sets up a mirrored copy of his model that auto updates as he makes changes to the real / opposite side of the model. I know this sort of thing can be achieved by making an instance of the first poly and then just editing the original but he also had another interesting feature that I'd like to replicate. In the video the centre line between the two meshes was sepcifically defined in some way and acted as a merging point between the two sides - polys dragged toward the line didnt overlap it, they simply combined together. Here's a pic of an inset being applied to right (real) side which is then dragged to the left and fuses with the copy model. I'd be interested to know if a similar feature existed in max and if so, how to go about setting it up. cheers
Pericolos0 Posted June 16, 2008 Report Posted June 16, 2008 easiest way to do this is just add a symmetry modifier =)
Zeta Posted June 16, 2008 Author Report Posted June 16, 2008 When i apply the symmetry mod in max it only makes a copy of the current mesh, it doesn't update itself. I'm after a feature that auto updates changes made to the original side, onto the copied side.
-HP- Posted June 16, 2008 Report Posted June 16, 2008 easiest way to do this is just add a symmetry modifier =) What he said, apply the modifier and let it stay on top of the stack. Click the small lamp on the left of the modifier to hide the other copy. if you change the geometry under the Editable Poly, it auto updates the other copy.
Zeta Posted June 18, 2008 Author Report Posted June 18, 2008 Strange, it didn't seem to continue working for me even when on top of the edit poly stack. I'll try again. Does this make the center line between the two sides a merging point as well?
