curman Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 I sent out applications awhile ago colleges, so far I been accepted by Platt college, Art institute of San fran (first choice), Savannah College of Art and Design, and Full Sail (eh) So anyone go to any or have advice? :< Quote
kleinluka Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 yeah, I haven't been to any of these but I've heard shitloads of comments by people who have. Actually my best advice is to sign up at cgtalk.com and do a search for "college" "university" "art institute" and "full sail" ... you'll see a number of interesting discussions. Apparently Full Sail has a really shitty reputation in the industry, and I can see why. They don't require the applicants to show a portfolio when they apply. They just accept anyone who applies, no matter if good artist or not... Their programs are said to be really rushed and the title "full sail graduate" will probably do you more harm than good as there have been comments from HR people who simply tossed every resume in the trash that were from FullSail graduates. Of course this isn't first hand information because, like I said, I haven't been there. But just go and read those comments at CGTalk... That should give you a good idea of what to expect from all the places you've listed. Quote
insta Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 I think in the gaming industry, it doesn't really matter where you got your degree, just the fact that you have it. Hopefully it comes down to your skill-level/portfolio when you apply for a job in the gaming industry, and not what college/university you went to. Of course, I have no idea if that's the case or not. Quote
Bic-B@ll Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 I know someone that goes to FullSail and according to him its very good, you only go there for a short time because its an accelerated schedule with crazy timings, he goes to some classes at 1 in the morning etc, its supposed to get you ready for the industry which is apparently like that and it also helps with scheduling so many students. That and they have some very expensive up to date equipment, so meh, I guess different sources tell different stories Quote

curman Posted October 13, 2004 Author Report Posted October 13, 2004 I wish someone had slapped me when I was a freshmen after the end when I got my final grades and told me just to wise up and not fuck around so much. I could of had a much better GPA I thinking of Art Institute of San Fran more though either Graphic Designs or Game Dev. Quote
