Minos Posted June 4, 2008 Report Posted June 4, 2008 It's finally finished! I still have some recent work to pimp but I'm not allowed to until the game they are for is shipped... so the main gallery is a bit empty by now but I'll have more time during my vacations to create more pieces =) ------> http://www.thiagoklafke.com <-------- Crits/bug reports are more than welcome, hope you guys like it!! Quakis Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 When you said empty, I didn't expect it to be that empty! Some nice stuff on there though. But may I ask why some of the latter images open both a lightbox and a page with the same images? The first 2 pages don't do this, while it leaves the rest quite inconsistent. Quote
Zacker Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 It is indeed quite empty, but what you have looks good. Did you not do some an INS level though? Where are the pics from it? Also the pics should of course open in the same way. Your site or at least your resume should also more clearly state if you are going for a position as env artist or level designer. Quote
-HP- Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 rather few but high quality pieces, than a lot of sucky ones! Good job dude, I also added to my friends list on my webpage! Quote

The INS level is there, right on your face D: As for the lightbox thingy, I thought some minor pieces wouldn't be worth their own page but yeah, you guys are right. I'll use lightbox for all of them. By the way, the lightbox script seems a bit bogus, it's spawning two windows. Or is it just me? Quote
e-freak Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 yepp - some of your images spawn twice. Never happend to me before (and I have used Lightbox quite often on own projects :S) Quote
Sa74n Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 good stuff thiago. only thing that really bugs me is the HUGE 'Extra' link in the site navigation. i understand why you did it but it works against the purpose of an extra section. it completely draws the focus away from the central piece of your website, your portfolio. another thing you could fix is moving the content area of the resume and extra pages to start at the top, like on the front page. on the resume page you could place the portugese language link somewhere else to make place, maybe to the right. maybe you could also even move the content on all pages a bit to the right to give it a bit more space, you'd have to try to find out how it looks. and while its a nice design i'd personally place the 'design by' somewhere not as obvious and make it a bit more subtle. if the purpose of your portfolio is to get you an env art or level design job i don't think most people will care that you created the design yourself, as sad as it sounds. you certainly came a long way though good luck with your future endeavours Quote
dissonance Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 But may I ask why some of the latter images open both a lightbox and a page with the same images? The first 2 pages don't do this, while it leaves the rest quite inconsistent.I agree, this is annoying as hell. The box is overused, but the vertical line of images is something I really don't see that often, and I like it far better. This might be because I have popups disabled, but I say get rid of the lightbox altogether. Other than that, huzzah! Damn good design, way to make your name prominent. Quote
Minos Posted June 5, 2008 Author Report Posted June 5, 2008 Thanks for the crits everyone, I'll work on those issues =) Quote
Psy Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 I didn't even know that the image of the INS map was a link. It would be better if each image that has a link had some sort of border clearly indicating that it's a hyperlink. Quote
Steppenwolf Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 Minos my man! I checked out the portfolio and here is my crits for you: - the Level Design part tho right in the face is hard to find! the map pic looks like part of a header rather then part of the galerie. Make a thumbnail the size of the other stuff instead. - all pictures open in a different kinda way. its strange and seems buggy - Links to friends. I know a lot of people have them in their portfolios but i would remove them. The portfolio is a website about you and is supposed to give you a job. You don't want possible employers to compare you with others peoples skills or to even leave your portfolio to check other portfolios out! Quote

kleinluka Posted June 10, 2008 Report Posted June 10, 2008 looking good! I'd probably make some more content and include some texture flats. Also make sure to specify what type of job you are looking for. You can put an "objective:" line in your resume and briefly describe what you're looking for. I'm saying this because your portfolio has both level design and env art in it. cool and, yes agreed about the links section. it's useless. don't put that on your portfolio. - the Level Design part tho right in the face is hard to find! the map pic looks like part of a header rather then part of the galerie. Make a thumbnail the size of the other stuff instead. agreed Quote
Minos Posted June 10, 2008 Author Report Posted June 10, 2008 Thanks for the crits guys Working on those things! Kleinluka: Winter break starts in 2 weeks, I'll have 2 months to fill it with content =) As for the map page: I'll also add a small thumb for it. I added google analytics to the site and that page is surprisingly one of the least visited. Quote
Pericolos0 Posted June 10, 2008 Report Posted June 10, 2008 I dont agree on the links thing, it's a sign of good courtesy to link to people who have helped you in the past =). If your portfolio is good enough you shouldnt have to worry they will steal employers away Quote
