Thrik Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 Yeah, I see exactly what you mean. She's female and she's Japanese — what a blatant rip! Quote
jaboo224 Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 I think it looks amazingly like Ultra violet. I mean the mirrored windows and the white buildings, not to mention the building chase scene/ running scene. Quote

CrazyMAC Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 I think it looks amazingly like Ultra violet. I mean the mirrored windows and the white buildings, not to mention the building chase scene/ running scene. Agreed . Rather liked that film even through it reviewed poorly. Quote
Erratic Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 ghost in the shell: just another blade runner ripoff Bladerunner, just another Nighthawks ripoff Quote
Yokai Posted May 23, 2008 Report Posted May 23, 2008 ":2fpuvki8]The Matrix?! A Ghost In the Shell rip-of? What kind of crack were you smoking dude? We all know Ghost In the Shell is one of the great inspirations for The Matrix, but not a rip-of, c'mon! Scene by scene comparison. If by "inspired" you mean lacking any sort of original direction. Opps, my bad. I mean, the matrix is a good movie, but if they had really told everyone who saw the matrix that it was heavily inspired by Ghost in the Shell I would feel as though The Matrix would have helped spread anime acceptance, which is a little to not common in the united states. ghost in the shell: just another blade runner ripoff Atleast the main character plot and scenario is different. I mean look a these two pictures: Not necisarily a bad thing, many things are inspired by this manga/anime series since it was very popular in both Europe and Japan. I've read more about this game and I can easily say it isn't a blatant "rip" off. Quote
Thrik Posted May 23, 2008 Report Posted May 23, 2008 Yeah, I have to agree that it seems like you're making connections that aren't there. The only significant similarity between the two is that she has chin-length hair, which is a huge stretch to even call 'inspiration'. I mean, they're a different race, not dressed remotely the same, and have no significant facial similarities beyond 'female' (although the cartoon woman actually looks a bit manly). Quote
-HP- Posted July 10, 2008 Author Report Posted July 10, 2008 New Screens! Amazine this is actually running on UE http://www.shacknews.com/screenshots.x? ... me_id=4429 Quote
Seldoon182 Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 I had a little thought for JP's dam map test when I saw this one. Quote
Nysuatro Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 I love the style but i have the feeling it will become boring after a while :s Quote
Taylor Posted July 11, 2008 Report Posted July 11, 2008 This made me rage when I read it originally, I thought it had passed. You people should probably watch GITS before lynching some guy for bringing it up. Quote
ReNo Posted July 11, 2008 Report Posted July 11, 2008 Umm....huh? I've seen GITS and Innocence, and some SAC, and I don't really think there's anything whatsoever to get up in arms about. Sure, there's similarities, but nothing even remotely nearing "rip off" territory. They may well have looked at Motoko's character and used her as inspiration for Mirror's Edge's protagonist, but that happens in character design in games companies. She was probably one of dozens of characters from an array of media stuck together on the concept boards from which they developed her. Quote
Taylor Posted July 11, 2008 Report Posted July 11, 2008 It's more than her appearance and I'm not saying "lol rip-off," but the similarities are there. Motoko's most famous scenes are her running over rooftops, disarming/disabling people with aerobatics and shooting while falling. Which is everything in the 1st mirrors edge trailer, and the 2nd trailer is more of the same only done in an anime style. The dude above never posted again after this group tirade. Quote
