Buddy Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 Bought it off of steam for only $15 and having a fantastic time. Lets see how fantastic it'll be after 2 hours. Quote
Erratic Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 Far Cry 2 was great, despite a few missteps. Quote
st0lve Posted March 31, 2009 Report Posted March 31, 2009 IMO it sucked since it was ALL the same. And everyone is hostile. Quote
Chunks Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 IMO it sucked since it was ALL the same. And everyone is hostile. My sentiments exactly I bought it this weekend also... all enemies are hostile, every mission is the same... novelty of the game world wears off fast... I am glad it was only $20. It doesn't feel like a game, more like a polished tech demo.. Quote

Not to turn into the Far Cry 2 defense force or anything, but I think it's a game you really have slip into, rather than brute force through missions. It definitely tests your patience and really does screw you over every chance it gets but that's sort of the crux of the game, I think. The survivability aspect of it really provides a unique experience; finding alternate routes, using the rivers instead of main roads, learning to avoid enemies instead of constantly confronting them. It can be easily overlooked if you get frustrated by that sort of shit though, and it's unfortunate, cause it really is a great game and did a lot of things really well. Not to say it's infallible, I think what exists as the overarching sort of pattern of the game could have used more variety, and makes it easy to fall into a monotonous routine of mission grinding. But I think once you accept that the game really isn't about that, you can start taking in a lot of the emergent little crazy moments and situations that arise and really see what the game does best. It's a demanding game but it works in its favor in the end. Quote
