Sentura Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 well yeah except all floors in the game shops seemed to end up in hardcore pornography for the last few floors. 2 weeks was just about the same time i spent i tokyo alone (i went to kyoto for a week and hiroshima for like 5 days as well), and i didn't get to see that much. but then again, the place is fucking huge... i lived in asakusa near ueno, and i could travel 90 km by subway before i'd hit downtown roppongi or shinjuku. as for kyoto, it's a beautiful place, but there's not really that much to do than just look at the temples and buy cheap drinks. miyajima outside of hiroshima and osaka are places i'd have gone instead, had i known. still, i don't regret going where i went. Taylor Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 I’ve heard Kyoto is nice for the ‘traditional’ Japan instead of the highly commercial, full-on bustle of the new capital. The plan was to bullet out there and back over two days, but we didn’t go for it. A friend of mine wanted me to go someplace far north (descriptive), but Tokyo contains far too much to do any of that. I’m definitely going there again next time I go on vacation so I’ll branch out to other places. And now I know what to expect I can face an event like Comiket or Reitaisai for maximum geekage. I tried not to be too touristy, walking around a yaoi shop and asking for the Harry Potter section while scaring little girls with my distinctive un-Bishonen appearance will go with me to my grave. As being hilarious. You say lived so I assume you were around for a while and just spent 2 weeks in Tokyo? I’m also curious to when you where there, as while a lot of places had me going in and exiting as fast as possible without looking prudish - Akiba was pretty clean relative to places like Shibuya, Ikebukuro and Shinjuku. I imagine it may have cleaned itself up a bit when it became so popular. Christ, I walked through the Kabukichō district in Shinjuku on a Friday night after some poor orienteering and had to beat off fight off the gigolo’s, pimps and hookers. I must’ve been the only westerner staying in Shinjuku who wasn’t there for the STDs. Quote
Sentura Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 i was in japan for a month, trying to visit as much as possible but still being able to get pissed at night, and of course trying to catch up with some of the events happening around. i went there last february/march. i guess "lived" was perhaps a bit far stretched, but i stayed there for about 10 days from when i arrived and 7 days when i got back from hiroshima. while i was there, ikebukuro and shibuya were what i'd call more decent places to go for a drink and a bit of fun (more "pub" style bars), places like roppongi made my blood boil, what with being assaulted by pimps and "bar-motivators" (you know, those people who try to get you to go inside their bar because it is so special compared to the other 200 bars in the area), too loud music, too expensive drinks, too many people and just in general too much. but i never really noticed anything that would fall in the category of "bad" or "unclean". nobody really did anything to anyone else, people were very apologetic and shy of conflict (except places roppongi). the anecdotes i have from down there were mostly associated with culture shock and customs. dux Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 I was watching BoB the other week in my yearly viewing of the series. So awesome. I wish they'd do one of the British, too. It's not all about America you know Heck half of the cast was British including Lewis who played Winters. And it was filmed in Royal Britannia, too. Quote
st0lve Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 I'd like to see it from German point of view. Everyone knows that allied won, and not that many tell the story of your average German soldier. Quote
