Facetime uses wi-fi so as long as the web connection is sound there should be no lag.

then wait until next spring and you'll have another one with more upgrades. and i really don't need yet another thing with a camera on it (i heard 3DS will have three cameras, what the hell?). i've had the first iphone since release and still don't see any reason to upgrade it.

The 3DS uses cameras to make the goggle-less 3D work AFAIK. They track your eyes and stuff, adjusting the picture appropriately.

As for the iPad, I'm not one for religiously getting every new iteration of hardware but I have to agree that your timing is remarkably bad. It's extremely likely that the iPad 2 is going to be announced within days, and the new model will be out in April. Apple tends to keep a very strict annual schedule (notice that every single iPhone has had a June/July release) so these rumours will almost certainly pan out.

I mean it's your money, but I'd personally wait a month or so if I were in the market for a iPad due to the likely inclusion of a 'retina' display (ie: double the resolution), as I personally think the original iPad's screen is significantly inferior to the iPhone 4's when it comes to sharpness, vibrancy, etc. In fact the iPhone 4 and the iPad have almost the same resolution.

It's most probably not too late to return it, so you know...

He'll still have to wait 3~4, maybe 5 months (max) before he can get this new shiny ipad (and thats IF apple stays with their time schedule).

Or he can enjoy his ipad right now, and sell it in 6 months and purchase this new shiny one if it really is that much better
