Buddy Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 I know it's old and shit but I haven't had chance to watch it earlier... the point is that when I watch it I basiclly see GOW+CRYSIS+UT3 which kind of sucks since its based on a radioplay/book where all monsters and stuff was described :/ Quote
Buddy Posted April 25, 2008 Author Report Posted April 25, 2008 Book? It was a radio play. Ah yeah I remeber there was a panic in the US because of it, i thought there was a book aswell though. edit: nah i was right. The War of the Worlds was an episode of the American radio drama anthology series Mercury Theatre on the Air. It was performed as a Halloween special on October 30, 1938 and aired over the CBS Radio network. Directed by Orson Welles, the episode was an adaptation of H. G. Wells' classic novel The War of the Worlds. Quote
FrieChamp Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 I remember lots of people from crytek coming out of the cinema, screaming in terror "the alien tripods look just like our scouts!!". Certain similarities were indeed quite surprising, but as we all know the Scouts from Crysis don't walk - they fly Still some people were afraid the public would bash us for ripping of war of the worlds, which was definitely not the case. A few more modifications to the character followed and I'm wondering if people even noticed it - but maybe this is exactly why you mention Crysis? I guess the walkers from UT3 are even more similar Quote

I guess the walkers from UT3 are even more similar UT3 Walkers are really simmilar, as for Crysis I was more about the last boss I guess, he walks, looks simmilar and uses tentacle to catch his enemies, also got some sort of canon simmilar to the movie. And GOW because first off, something hits the earth then monsters are coming out of the ground... Quote
ctswin Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 And GOW because first off, something hits the earth then monsters are coming out of the ground... eh? GOW wasn't on earth.. they were mining on another planet and using the locust's resources... no? Quote
-HP- Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 What about the tripods from HL2 back in 2004? Quote
e-freak Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 Read RTB and you will know that the Striders have been invented looooong before :science: Quote
Pericolos0 Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 H G Wells described them as tripods in his book which was written about a century ago so essentially war of the worlds was first =) Quote

Algor Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 UT3 rips off War of the Worlds in one of the cutscenes. It is a overhead shot of several city blocks with the tripods walking down the streets and zapping shit with their weapons. Pretty sure that shot is "majorly inspired" by the same exact one in War of the Worlds. Quote
Thrik Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 War of the Worlds is so old and so widely known I can't believe anyone would think something with alien tripods in couldn't be inspired by it. Quote
