Thrik Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 My favourite games magazine Edge posted about a weird Japanese game, based on Super Mario Bros but has an almost endless assortment of ingenious ways of making you die. Having just spent 30 fucking lives getting through the first level, I'd be inclined to agree that the sheer number of ways you can die is inspiring. After a while I was just laughing at how ridiculous they were, as it's almost a complete mockery of the conventions you expect from a platform game — and especially Mario! Well worth giving a go: http://www.geocities.jp/z_gundam_tanosi ... action.zip It doesn't require installation, but you do need to download it. ThrikCheck™ gives it the A-OK! If you can finish the first level in less than 30 lives you're a better gamer than me. Quote
Thrik Posted April 14, 2008 Author Report Posted April 14, 2008 Fucking HELL. I'm at -160 lives after finishing level two. And my hand hurts from hitting my desk a few times. Quote
Erratic Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 edit: Wait, you can get passed the first level Quote
Thrik Posted April 14, 2008 Author Report Posted April 14, 2008 Yes. There are four, climaxing with an exciting boss. I have just died after using up over 290 lives. Towards the end I was actually laughing out loud, although whether that was due to the death ingenuity or sheer insanity I'm not sure. Quote
Algor Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 This was on the shacknews replay couch a while back, had a good old lol while watching it. Can't imagine playing it... Quote
Sentura Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 if you're into this sort of stuff, there's also asshole mario: i know you can download it somewhere, we tried it a few of us over at uni and spent well over 50 lives on the first level. Quote

-HP- Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 I don't understand, when Im finishing the first level something falls from the sky and kill me! Quote
Sentura Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 ":381z0n97]I don't understand, when Im finishing the first level something falls from the sky and kill me! it's part of the game. i got to that point too, and i reckon you need to hit the absolute top of the pole to win (watch for the invisible box above the sky, and the yellow rocket thing) Quote
Thrik Posted April 15, 2008 Author Report Posted April 15, 2008 The answer is so obvious you'll laugh. Quote
Thrik Posted April 15, 2008 Author Report Posted April 15, 2008 L!OL!!!!!! I think a lot of the appeal is the original cat art though. It suits the "this is so hard it's taking the piss" mood nicely. As for the end of the first level, you jump over the flagpole. Quote
Cybbe Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 I got to the part of the game where you cross a brdige and grab a sword, and then there's a big chicken. And I die I used like 40 lives at that place alone trying to figure out wtf to do. Went there at -76 and got to -110 before I just gave up and went to prepare some exam stuff. -EDIT- Just got there at -15. It's a lot easier when you know what's gonna happen. Some things still throw me off though But I just know I'll spend my next 500 lives trying to figure out what to do. -EDIT2- Watched a speedrun near the end to figure out wtf to do. And finally got it with -53. Could do better though if I didn't waste almost 40 tries trying to figure out what to do, lol. Time to play again! Quote
KoKo5oVaR Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 While we are at it .. The goal of this game is to kill yourself, and it's fucking hilarious. => http://gmc.yoyogames.com/index.php?showtopic=369491 Quote
