Minos Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 woot since I'll be doing more concept art I decided to start my own thread (peris is not the only one anymore!) This is my first "serious" painting, using my tablet. It's a random vault opening its door, a vertibird and an enclave soldier wannabe ready to open fire against the vault dwellers. Anyone who played Fallout 2 will instantly recognize the scene It has a lot of mistakes so I'm ready to take hard criticism, go ahead, spit it out, I can take it I consider this very wip, I still have to work on the door, and improve the composition. I thought of adding some tribals spying on the enclave soldiers in the bottom right corner. Ideas are welcome. Some areas are still very rough as well. (ps: I'm aware the vault door doesn't look anything like the one in Fallout, I was too lazy and went for a simple looking one) Quote
Sentura Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 reminds me alot of the koko style, i like it. i honestly dont give much critique since, well, it's art. at any point you could go and say "yeah i meant to do that". if i had to say something though, the veiny look on the rocks in some places looks weird and out of place and the area behind the man and flying thing is way too dark, considering how light the rest of the cave is. also the rotors of the flying thing look like they're floppy/flaccid ;p Quote
Pericolos0 Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 ooh cool start mino =) some tips: -theres a big seperation between the brush sizes you use, i see small skratches and big brushes. Try to keep a similar level of detail in your painting and only go more detailed in areas of focus. -try creating more depht using fog or different values/colors. Its hard to get a sense of perspective out of this painting because the values are tehsame everywhere -try using some hard edged brushes instead of soft edge ones, youll get a better feeling of detail and completeness =) Quote

Keep it up with the crits guys, I'll only be able to work on this in the next weekend. Quote
Minos Posted April 15, 2008 Author Report Posted April 15, 2008 woot I did some work on this tonight (30 minutes or so) Quote
Sentura Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 much better now, more depth and more smoothness. i still think you should smoothen the hard light on the walls... but that's about it. how long did it take you to make this, total? Quote
Minos Posted April 15, 2008 Author Report Posted April 15, 2008 Thanks Sentura. Yeah I actually agree with you about the thin hard edges, I'll get rid of those. It didn't take much, 2 hours and a half on sunday and another half hour yesterday. It's still not finished yet, I wanna finish some stuff first then move on to something else (been thinking of painting something featuring the almighty indiana jones ) Quote
dux Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 That's cool! The Osprey looks like it's made of jelly, though? Quote
Minos Posted July 26, 2008 Author Report Posted July 26, 2008 Quick environment: kikette, TheOnlyDoubleF and ChA1NsAw 3 Quote
Sentura Posted July 26, 2008 Report Posted July 26, 2008 looks good, although the contour on the foreground is too sharp. how quick is quick? Quote
Minos Posted July 26, 2008 Author Report Posted July 26, 2008 Yeah I screwed up the foreground but I only noticed that when the painting was done (I was working on a 16% zoom). The entire scene took about 2 hours. I'm slow Quote
Seldoon182 Posted July 26, 2008 Report Posted July 26, 2008 Ur sketchbook is looking better and better! Btw what r ur brushes settings? Quote
Minos Posted July 26, 2008 Author Report Posted July 26, 2008 I used a hard round brush mainly + some weird brushes I created. The clouds brush was created using one of Windows XP's stock wallpapers lol (the one with a tiny island). Quote
Minos Posted July 26, 2008 Author Report Posted July 26, 2008 We are learning from the same dvd Jk, I really dig peris style and he's one of my inspirations of course. Quote
