Zyn
Computer games will carry cinema-style age ratings to protect children from violent and sexual images, ministers said yesterday. Parents will be advised to take computers out of their children's bedrooms after a report has warned of the potential of the Internet and violent console games to harm children. Dr Tanya Byron, the television psychologist whose study was commissioned by Gordon Brown, said allowing children to play on computers unsupervised is as dangerous as letting them play outside on their own. etc etc derp derp http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/a ... _page_id=1 Blah blah blah blah, and blah. But hold on! There's something wrong with the picture! Let us examine : To the untrained eye or people who don't care about pictures, it's just meh. But lets take a closer look! PS: The kids are playing Super Mario Kart 64 on the second picture, how is that related to voilent games?

Hourences
Dr Tanya Byron, the television psychologist whose study was commissioned by Gordon Brown, said allowing children to play on computers unsupervised is as dangerous as letting them play outside on their own. ...outside on their own.... Holy shit. That is really dangerous. Yeah indeed. That single line just blew any credibility she might have had left for me. There is nothing damn wrong with playing outside on your own, it is actually because of the over concern in the last decade, with parents trying to protect their children at all times, that keeping your child indoors is kind of promoted, in turn actually promoting video games. I wonder if she figured that out already.

Taylor
From the sound of things she watched someone play a game for 10 minutes and wrote her opinion on it. I’m not exactly sure why a Celebrity Fit Club contestant is qualified to judge whether games are dangerous or not, though. I've read the Tanya Byron article and it was pretty positive, all she was pushing for was a better rating system and age check on the console/PC (which I believe does exist on the 360, PS3 and Vista?) so it's definitely been taken out of context here… and that's hardly surprising because it's the Daily Mail. The Daily Mail is in no way repressentative of anything, it’s read by the dregs of society. "It is important to note that there is no conclusive evidence of any link between playing computer games and violent behaviour in real life," the spokesperson continued. "Our concern is to make sure that inappropriate material is kept away from children. "The Prime Minister asked Dr Tanya Byron to lead a review to assess the effectiveness and adequacy of existing measures to help prevent children from being exposed to harmful or inappropriate material in videogames and on the internet, and to make recommendations for improvements or additional action. "Dr Byron's review will be published shortly and Ministers will give careful consideration to any recommendations then." – Gamesindustry.biz There’s a better article somewhere where the MP’s were discussing this in the house of commons but I can’t find the link. Basically someone had done zero research and was preaching how these are corrupting our youth, and a lady completely smashed down every argument he brought forward with things like logical reasoning and facts. It was beautiful.

Problem with parents these days is they grew up in the 60's, took too much acid (I know it's hard to believe there's such a thing as too much acid), and when they finnally came down 40 years later they said "oh shit. wtf just happened" and are afraid their kids will do the same. They never grew up fully.
