myles Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 Hey All! I wanted to get some new work done for my portfolio, so i descided to do somthing that could be done reasonably easily. It is a Small DeathMatch created with the Unreal Engine 1 for practice with BSP work and fast pased gameplay. Only generic materials were used and took one week to complete. You can download it here. I'd attach the ZIP but it doesnt allow ZIP format :/ Quote
⌐■_■ Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 i like the looks but i think the rest of your portfolio is far more impressive. GJ tho Quote
Hourences Posted March 22, 2008 Report Posted March 22, 2008 MAybe you should motivate the gameplay choices on your portfolio, why you designed the floorplan the way you did. The level itself could really use improvements. The corona in the first screen floats I think. You can lower the brightness of the lightboxes so they dont stand out as much, use ScaleGlow I believe in properties Display, theres a red lamp somewhere that gives off very little light yet has a corona in front so raise its brightness or remove the corona, custom textures may really help making the map cooler as these super standard textures have become really really boring after 9 years. I would also bump up brightness of some lamps, and be sure to play the game in OpenGL using the latest UT OpenGL Render dll's. D3D is really bad, in case you were using that. Quote
-HP- Posted March 22, 2008 Report Posted March 22, 2008 wow, I didn't knew someone still made maps for ut99! awesome! Welcome to the core btw Quote
myles Posted March 22, 2008 Author Report Posted March 22, 2008 Thanks Everyone, it is really appreciated. Ive made those changes Hourence and ive made some textures for them. About the red lights they are flashing and its hard to catch the ligt at its brightest, is it possible to make the corona flash too? I think I need to do some more BSP work in a few areas, such as the corridors and the floors. Here are the the versions - Quote
Nurb Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 Hey Myles, looks pretty good for UT99. What I would like to comment on is the last couple of sentances in your resume "...now I think I have the skill to create a Next-Gen Environment with Next-Gen Assets. With these skills I plan to enter the game-industry". I'm not denying this could be true, but I think that in order to show that you can create "next-gen environments" maybe you should first try to make something good using "this-gen" technology, like the UT3 engine, Crysis, CoD4 or whatever. The Unreal 1 engine is outdated and doesnt support features used in current games. Just a suggestion. Quote
myles Posted March 23, 2008 Author Report Posted March 23, 2008 Haha yes Nurb thanks for pointing that out, your quite right but I just havent got around to finishing my UT3 map. But I completely agree with you. Quote
Hourences Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 Im not fond of the white lighting as white is so standard, maybe try giving it a subtle color. If the lights are animated, remove the corona. You can animate the corona but it is difficult and even if you do, they still wont be synced to the light animation. Quote
myles Posted March 23, 2008 Author Report Posted March 23, 2008 Thanks Hourence, Ive made alot of changes to the map and I think this part is done, the lights look white in this but there deffinatly not, there more creamy. - Im still working on these parts - Quote
