m8nkey Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 I recently posted in HP's current WIP thread commenting on how I haven't really checked out Crysis and don't intend to for a while due to the demanding nature of the engine. I don't like to see my computer in pain. In retrospect I think it was inappropriate of me to post such a comment in HP's thread for his fine map. Instead I feel an off topic thread is far more appropriate for people to argue about which engine is shit. Personally, I've devoted too much time to Source to explore anything else for a while. After my current map I'll probably make some stuff for TF2 or a mod before having a look at another engine. Source FTW
FrieChamp Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 In retrospect I think it was inappropriate of me to post such a comment in HP's thread for his fine map. Instead I feel a thread in "engine discussion" is far more appropriate for people to argue about which engine is shit. Fixed. PS: "Source FTW!" - I think "the retarded olympics" sums up my expectations for this thread quite well
-HP- Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 Personally, I've devoted too much time to Source to explore anything else for a while. Well, that's pretty much what we all feel around here, most of us have devoted many hours of learning and work on a specific engine/editor, and we all know how painful it was learning the in depths of it, because many things are not listed on tutorials, you just learn it by doing, and after a couple of months we master that specific engine, and get to love it, and we don't see ourselves using anything else, because one got used to that workflow/pipeline of making levels, importing assets, etc, etc, etc. Every engine got It's bad and good sides, and It all comes down to a personal taste.
Zacker Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 After having worked with the Unreal engine for some months now I am still nowhere near my skill level in Source. I can however already now say that it's clearly a better engine. So it's a real pain in the ass as always to learn a new engine, but it helps that there is lots of very nice stuff in this one.
Warby Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 ... huh ---. nobody ? .... apparently the comparison to the special Olympics made every not go into an all out troll war have to keep that in mind for the future those words are like an internet pacifier
FrieChamp Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 I think everyone's just tired of these discussions, we've had so many of this kind before...
