Albatros Posted March 1, 2008 Report Posted March 1, 2008 Hey guys, the first beta of DoD_Grafenstein is finished and should be running without any serious bugs. http://www.albatros44.de/1945/dod_grafenstein_b1.zip Most of the work consisted in making textures, overlays and optimization due to the pretty open setting. Many DoD:S players keep complaining about long walking distances before seeing any action, so I limited the (detonation) objectives to one for each side - a flak 38 and a sherman tank. Both teams have spawns with at least 2 exits to prevent spawning-carnage from happening. As soon as I get enough feedback on bugs, balancing and gameplay itself, I'll make it a release candidate and the 2nd map for my soon-to-come DoD:S map package. Cheers Quote
Sindwiller Posted March 1, 2008 Report Posted March 1, 2008 awesome. i want your babies. Fixed. Looks awesome man *downloads* Quote
Deathy Posted March 1, 2008 Report Posted March 1, 2008 Yup it looks great. Didn't test it yet but that's what i will do today. Quote
-HP- Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 Cheer awesomeness, this is one of the best good looking custom map I've seen on source engine Quote
hessi Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 i had a run through today. i dont know what you want to change, but as in general it seems a bit sktechy. dont get me wrong, the screenshots look great! but when i run through it i see so many things that just pop into my eyes or maybe even don't work. for example there are some stairs you have to walk on in the right angle otherwise you are clipped. then there is some weird behavior with the fog which appears only in close areas. let me know if you want a bunch of images with comments or not! Albatros Posted March 2, 2008 Author Report Posted March 2, 2008 Hey everybody, thanks for the feedback . @Hessi: Aye, there's a whole lot of work left to do, especially that fog you mention and the insides of the buildings. Reason is that I didn't know what to expect from the balancing/gameplay so I was like "okay, if it won't work out I'll have to detail it all out again", so much of it really is sketchy . I'd love to get those screenies if you find the time to take them. I bet there's a lot of unintended sketchyness here and there. Just had a game of 12 vs 12 players and it really was a lot of fun, though I guess I'll try and experiment with different objectives at least for testing. Blowing up the tank isn't that hard to do, but getting to the flak with a well setup MG/sniper on the axis team has proven to be complicated. Anyways cheers & nice sunday everybody Quote
Baumwoll-Auge-Joe Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 Do you plan to finish this map this time? I am asking, because I see alot of nice work on your website, but all maps remains beta Quote
Albatros Posted March 3, 2008 Author Report Posted March 3, 2008 Yes I do . In fact I'm remaking all those maps listed on my website atm. Consider the beta-versions of each map a kind of test run to see how very different gameplay modes will work practically (e.g. shooting tanks with bazookas in nightingale or blowing up generators that supply certain parts of the street illumination in a map like in dod_stuttgart). P.S.: thanks hessi, very valuable stuff in that .zip you gave me. Correcting stuff right away. Quote
Minos Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 Looks great, too bad I don't have Dod:Source Quote
