i've been working on modeling a Volkswagen Combi T1
The plan isn't to make it a 3D model for a game engine or something like that, it's a model to 3D print.

The challenge isn't much on the polycount or any sort of material, it's to make sure that each piece can be printed, is solid enough, can be assembled with the right tolerances ...

It's a project I started with some friends before Covid but stopped a year ago, i'm going back on it to finish it.
It's a miniature RC car (about 30cm long), controllable with a Xbox One gamepad.
The goal is to make it fully open source. I haven't applied my modifiers on Blender and I hope to finish the project like that, to allow anyone interested to modify it with ease.

Ok, let's all calm down and get back on topic.
@Michael_: You have some unorthodox ideas and perspectives about level design and originality. You need to realize this and shouldn't be surprised that others have different ideas. You speak with very little humility, a harsh tone and an accusatory attitude. Please try to adress this or Mapcore may not be the place for you.

All art is inspired or influenced by things you have experienced before. Nothing is truly original. Saying that "not using reference imagines" is what makes a visual art piece original is purely arbitrary.

We released an update for the top 10 deadline!

It mainly focuses on improving the art and optimisation, but also includes some minor fixes too.
@TanookiSuit3 and @Huvaligen have done a great job with the art, and have given it the run down effect we were aiming for!
    It's been a blast.

he just has full blown dunning-Kruger. He had a review of his map and it was so tactically lacking it became bland to play within half a game. His default position is angry and never tried to get his maps tested etc.

They only "work" once players have spent hundreds of hours on them and become accustomed to them. There's a big difference between what is good level design, and what is accepted by the players

    And? What would it change?
Getting financial gains is not the only reason you should give credits to original authors.

Congratulations. You are a part of the problem. Someone ripped off assets. Aggregated them to the workshop and then you took them and used in your work under your name because you thought it was ok to steal them because someone else already stole them and put them on workshop.

    Are we missing something here?
I do think that but... Look at my reply to your third point.

Of course we would gladly give you feedback on level design but
How can you expect us commit our free time when you don't want to commit yours to putting credit to the original authors of the assets you used in your map?

IIRC Mapcore's big CSGO contest seems to run biannually, but they run more frequent smaller contests as well, which tend to focus on something a bit less ambitious than a fully fledged 5v5 defusal map. I would advise contacting one of the admins directly from this page if you want to get involved -- it takes a lot of work for them to set up and run, so as we've only just come out of a big contest they might have some schedule restrictions.
I for one would love to see a well sponsored contest that incentivises people to work on a lesser played map type like hostage rescue, wingman or arms race.

    Hi Guys!

Thanks for your ideas and input! Awesome!
We could potentially sponsor a mapping competition for sure. How many do you guys do a year? Is it only one?
    Radu and Text Fish
The idea of side tournaments is interesting and I see why it is great for aspiring creators to get exposure of their amazing work.

    Blackdog
This is an interesting idea. Would it be on already established maps then?
In general though I think we are more interested in stuff that is not 5v5 Bomb Defusal maps.

Joe is right, it would be great if professional players or tournament organisers would give community maps a shot. There are already dozens of well designed, quality maps out there.

    Hi Erik, welcome to mapcore.
You could see if you can get involved in sponsoring Mapcore's next contest, as long as that wouldn't prove some sort of conflict of interest.
It would be great to see the competitive community open up to new maps more. Maybe you could talk to tournament operators about expanding the map pool. Obviously the classics are the only option for big-money tournaments, but there's nothing to say they couldn't run a little side-gig where knocked out teams (so not Fnatic, obviously) play for a runners-up prize on a pool of lesser known community maps? Exposure is priceless for aspiring creators.

    Hi Everyone!
My name is Erik Londré and I work at Fnatic. We have previously dabbled in creating custom maps. We did a CS:GO surf map a few years ago and created a custom 1v1 map for an event. We were super happy with the results of both.

When I watched a WarOwl video where he presented the maps from the Exotic places competition I got really inspired. The level of creativity was insane!
So now I am coming to your community and asking what we can do together to make CS:GO better?
What educational, competitive, or just plain fun map concept are we missing?
Can we build the ultimate training/warm-up map?
Are we building the scariest zombie escape map ever for this years Halloween?
Should we recreate the Tokyo Olympics in CS?

Or should we do something completely different? I would love to hear your ideas. Maybe you are already working on something you think we could collaborate around?
Our CS:GO team is currently ranked #1 in the world, we have access to sponsors for funding, big name content creators and a lot of CS:GO fans all around the World. I think we could make some really cool stuff happen together.

You haven't really showed me that you disagree with me on my view that top Mapcore has been deciding maps for many years now, so I am not really sure what else outside to appeal to ignorance can be used to defend their judges from being at fault for what maps get accepted.

I think you're misunderstanding something here as well. I replied to Interfearance's comments about which maps are being accepted to the game. I don't really care what maps get accepted into the game myself. I just play on community servers anyways.

I also fail to understand what Warowl, one of the judges on the latest competition, getting a map removed from the game by rallying his followers is meant to prove.

I think the main thing you are misunderstanding Passerby is that maps are not "sent to MapCore", but instead most of the dedicated csgo mappers are a part of MapCore's community. And obviously the people handing the Twitter account like to help people get exposure.
The MapCore FaceIt hubs were originally setup solely by mappers in the community, which has helped get eyes on maps.
Lots of MapCore member's maps have not made it into the game, however yes, a large amount have because there are so many dedicated mappers in MapCore, but this is more down to the hard work of the mappers than the fact that they are "MapCore maps".
