Stumbled on this video on YT today, and reminded me how disappointing some aspects of M3 was.
M2 still looks so good, still very smooth and readable, there's no DLC crap and even though it's an open world game, there's zero grind. It's been a while since I played it and correct me if I'm wrong but I don't even think there's side quests, how amazing is that?

Adding a basic thunderstorm event on repeat in my map, why?
Because I've been stuck on making this map look nice to release for ages and I needed to do some scripting to stay sane.

Splash has been an absolutely great experience, almost hit my 2nd year, time flies by real quick.
And in regards to maps, Yes I do
Here are some pieces I had done for gmod sandboxes, mostly as favours for mates.
Handy thing about these maps was that I did get to try out a good range of themes and ideas i've been wanting to check out for a while, even made antlion sandtraps for the first time.
And some blockout type things, not many on here since I'm just sharing images I've already uploaded, got more to show when I get home

Now that I am out of gmod sandboxes, I'm checking out a different area I was curious about.
That would be Synergy mapping, figure some HL2 Co-op maps would be a fun experience to get into, and not seen all that often.

LATEST UPDATE: Version 1.3.10 on Mar 27th, 2018
    LATEST RELEASE
    OFFICIAL WEBSITE
    DOCUMENTATION
    Hey Mapcore!
This is an open source vmt editor that aims to improve the tedious experience of editing text files with an easy to use UI and fast workflow.
Dima Butemann did most of the heavy lifting involving the programming while I took care of the UI and bothered him about updating it.
It has texture previews, can convert jpgs, pngs or tgas to vtfs (and move them to proper directories), verify vmts, features a batch vmt creation and has support for (most of) new parameters introduced in Nuke CS:GO update.

Version 1.3.10 with all the required files can be found here: DOWNLOAD
Alternatively, if any of you know Qt and C++ and would like to help with the project, you can check out our git repo at https://github.com/Gira-X/VMT-Editor
Here is a quick video to demonstrate how fast making vmt files is:
And converting textures to vtf: https://streamable.com/zlwed   If it doesn't find any games you have to manually add them in the Manage games dialog:
And browse to the main game directory:

Also a shoutout to the creators of VTFLib (http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/) that provides the texture converting and preview functionality.

Felt the same sentiment when I was playing New N Tasty recently.
Although I think I am finding that is less because the game has not aged well, and more because the remaster feels like it's several gameplay preservation passes short of release ready. - Number of times I am dying to landmines that the environment art and lighting keeps concealing with foliage, darkness and bloom.

I think its one of those cases where being too faithful to a reference hurts the final product, it’s waaay off the left field for people not to notice and criticise. It just looks dangerous, as in I can’t see how people wouldn’t get their foot stuck in there, so it’s not inviting to be used. I mean, in real life is not meant to be used, so the natural reaction in game is to stay away as well.
You can achieve the same intended effect of metal noise by using metal grills such as this heavy duty stuff used in building sites as well as public installations (catwalks leading to natural beauty spots for eg)
    https://images.app.goo.gl/hyKEcqySkpkrUotx7
I would convert the left side to a concrete ramp (or wooden! if the map represents a site in early development). Or make a fully finished concrete set of stairs, but one side has wooden board on it to make a ramp. A ramp would make a lot of sense for moving heavy building materials up and down the height difference, and would be accessible if the final site is intended for public use (not moving goods). Ultimately I think would look more logic/organic.

I’d like to see this in context, as in: I’m a bit sceptical that such small positioning difference is so advantageous for one team or the other, it sounds wrong. Not that it’s a bad idea to differentiate peek spots, but the closest example I can think is underpass on Santorini and the two angles are separated by a wall and there’s an accentuated difference in the way you walk up to the spot that makes sense. If there has to be a clearly more advantageous way to peek, than I argue that you should have a clearly different variant (like forking the path to go indoor and come out from a window/door or you peek from a platform which you would have had to choose to get up to before getting here)
