Reddit + Mapcore CS:GO Mapping Contest Finalists Announced!

I knew my map won`t be one of the finalists, but that wasn`t my goal. Contests like these give me the motivation to start working on a map and FINISH them. Thanks to everyone who helped me out and congrats to the finalists! I wonder what maps will make it into the next operation -

FMPONE is one of the judges isn't he? I couldn't think of anyone else who fits better for this job. He knows about artstyle AND gameplay and more importantly how both of these things have to work together to make a great map and I think he is really open-minded. Really, CS:GO would be a worse game without FMPONE. -
layout is the same size and I don't know what you mean with "fix" the wallbangs, the wallbangs I know of are intended. Btw the demo and log file are still not up, so I have no idea what people said about this map in the playtest. Oh and one more thing: In this version of the map, terrorist have control over both houses. This creates 2 layers for the map, one for CT, one for T, those 2 layers are kinda like a big map if you put them at the same level back to back if you know what I mean . Yeah it would be probably better if it was bigger, but I think it works, at least 5v5.

The map has been updated! - reworked bombsite B--- double doors replaced with windows--- removed bridge--- made the house with the window inaccessible--- rearranged cover--- made wall unwalkable- widened path from CT to B- made room from CT to A bigger- added cover to long A- added cover to "Mid to A"- closed off bridge- sealed off balcony- bugfixes, exploit fixes

demo pls I couldn't properly play myself because I was ill, after the playtest it got really bad :S but now I'm okay.

I requested a playtest. The maps name is "Steinhausen", it was "Paderborn" before. I changed it because Paderborn is a location in real life and that makes unneccessary problems. Since the last playtest there are tons of changes and improvements, so I think it is worth playtesting it again, so I can polish it before the contest ends.

yes I am german. That sign is a Valve asset from the map overpass. I thought it fits anyway and also gives some cover

Since there is no limit to how many maps you can submit to the contest, I thought why not also submit my older map? I can't compete with the best maps, but I think it's still a fun map and hopefully some people will try it out and give me some more feedback The map is a suburb in Germany at night. Thank you. Playing my map with so many people was great, that's the thing which motivates me to make levels. Create a playground or challenge for other people to enjoy. Also ozzion please don't forget the extra feedback you mentioned! And I'm requesting the demo and log file. Again thanks everyone! Oh one more question: After making big changes to my map, can I request a 2nd playtest? I can understand if the answer is no

Counter-Strike is not a new game. It exists for more than 15 years now. I think people know a bit about what works and what doesn`t work by now. edit: btw I updated my map to better prepare it for the playtesting session. Fixed spots where you could get out of the map, added decals for bombsites and stuff like that.

you could start with the real life location, then modify it and keep iterating until it has good gameplay. Recreating a real location 100% is impossible anyway.

only because A is behind B doesnt mean there is no reason to go there. It depends on how you design the level, there should be opportunities to maybe fake B and then push around the map to A, then maybe even change your mind again and surround B or go to A. To make this work you need to work with different heights I think. Also if you go for this Layout, B should be hard to hold so the CTs might commit to much defense there, so Ts can abuse that and go around to A instead. To make that work you have to be really good though. I would look a de_nuke for some inspiration. How about this (quick sketch from me):

it would be nice if the reddit playtesting thing would actually tell you why your map doesn`t get picked for the next playtest. I don`t have 4000 units long roads. I have no idea why my map wasn`t chosen. But doesn`t matter, I will apply for the other playtesting thing Vaya posted. -
looks amazing. I like the red door because it gives the map a bit more color, maybe you could add more stuff like that? Of course you shouldn't overdo it, just some small nuances Haven't tested the map yet, but the map overview already looks interesting and different. edit: oh I didn't notice the small trashcans and the blue flag and stuff like that. So you already have some color nuances, maybe a bit more on the houses and the roofs maybe
