    Requires Counter Strike : Source, and Source SDK 2007 & 2006. There are two builds, one from 2006 (seen on the video), the other is an april 2008 build + list of commands and a map for the forest level (it's pretty big and confusing). It contains new zombies with new animations, more detailed maps, more maps too, new textures etc. It also contains a bug - the fire doesn't render and the first map is literally unplayable because of the broken vehicle, but it doesn't differ from the 2006 version.
    Judging from what i've played, it isn't half as bad as i thought it is, especially the 2008 version. It feels bland without any of the story implemented, the radios give out a generic static, tape recorders are just a prop, it would've been nice to see any story behind it. There are many nods to the original, the levels are actually nice looking, zombies are well modeled. BUT I can see why it was described as nothing nice to play, sometimes the level progression is confusing and i mean confusing, the game also has those moments when it throws a bunch of zombies at you, and without modifying the skill.cfg it's a madness.

    Unfortunately the studio I was part of, Defiant Studios, pretty much exploded due to a nonsensical conflict with our publisher...
    Good news is, 3-4 weeks later, our team got picked up by People Can Fly, and now represents the NA branch of the company!
    But obviously during the hiatus, the future was uncertain... and people had to look elsewhere, including myself (cuz livin' in NY ain't cheap, ya know)
     
    So I just moved to the West Coast last week, and just started yesterday at 343 Industries, working on the next Halo!!
    Absolutely love the studio and team, and I can't wait to share more details when time comes ?

    Yeah I feel like they are feature creeping tech when they really don’t need to. Some sick level design, level art, talented VO and a few new guns to spice up the arsenal would have been enough.

    I want to like this but it doesn’t scratch the itch. I really respect the professionalism they bring to this but the sound effects, the graphics, the gameplay, everything kind of falls flat for me and seems like a rough HL2 mod.
    To make a good HL3 you have to start with the things we don’t currently have good access to, narrative and story beats. The physics is nice but I don’t feel that physics are a big constraint in current HL2 mods, it’s the narrative excitement and polish that is generally lacking in these mods.
    Are the characters here going to be interesting, are the stories going to be compelling? That’s what I crave from the Half Life universe.

    This is a desert with no clouds, it's supposed to be super bright, yet the blacks are clipping like crazy. This kill most of your detailling.

    My plan was to release in end May-early June and as the saying goes "everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face"
    I had a series of unfortunate and unforeseen setbacks that inevitably delayed the above plan of release.
    My mother is going to have surgery by the end of this month and this is a priority (family comes first ) with all the pre-surgery appointments and taking her to the doctor and whatnot.
    Next, I found a new and better way to implement my NPC dialogues and player monologues so i had to re-adjust and re-write considerable chunks of dialogs and the corresponding quest script lines.
    To add to this, Techland patched the game in early June which in turn screwed the developer tools; the map started crashing at loading screen and couldn't work on it for a week 
    Finally, E3 happened and everyone, developer Techland and the active player base, has their eyes on Dying Light 2. Any content for DL1 will probably go unnoticed so we will wait a bit until DL2 hype sets down a  notch 
    The map is 95% done and under active development, so that is reassuring after all the above setbacks.
    Thanks everyone for the continuous support and for sticking around for this long, I hope it will be worth it in the end

    I made a first draft of a skybox to set the mood and direction for the level. I wanted to put extra emphasis on the mysticism associated with the Himalayan theme.

    Hello, for those that do not know me, I'm David, a self-taught Weapons & Hard Surface 3D Artist.
    In this post I will share with you the steps I had to follow in order to make this scene for my entry in the Hum3D weapons challenge. I still consider this piece a work in progress and I plan on updating the entry once I come up with a better lighting setup.

    Everything that composes the final shot is modeled from scratch in Blender 2.79b, textured in Substance Painter and rendered in Marmoset Toolbag. Marmoset Toolbag was also used to bake the AO and Normal maps because it does a better job than Substance Painter (Marmoset is super intuitive and it gives you a lot of control over the baking process).
    I started with the most time consuming piece: the pistol. Initially I wanted to make the SIG Sauer P226 but later on I decided to switch to the P228 variant since the P226 grip resembles the wood in the way the material needs to be textured. Wood is nice but texturing wood is a struggle for me and for many other artists. A flat piece of wood might look good but when complex shapes come into play, only a few people can come up with a realistic texture.

    Excepting for the switch to the P228 model, the modeling phase did not consist of any challenges. Here you can see the lowpoly and highpoly models.
    When it comes to the UV unwrap, I had a few mirrored pieces. The faces you see missing are being mirrored from the other side. Overall, the pistol has a small amount of mirrored parts and I believe I could get away with 0 mirrored parts if I wouldn’t focus so much on showing the internal pieces.

    Unwrapped to use 1 single texture set at 2K resolution.

    For the highpoly model I added more detail to the base model, separated some pieces (more visible in the top down view) and subdivided the mesh for a clean and smooth look. For the front of the grip, rear of the grip and trigger guard I used floaters to add the details.

    Here is the low poly model with the Normal and AO maps applied. 5.1k polygons

    I am super pleased with the baked maps. The lack of detail in the mesh is not visible at all when the Normal and the AO maps are applied. From left to right: Highpoly, Lowpoly, Lowpoly+Wireframe.

    Moving on to textures. As you might have seen already, the focus on my models is the realism and the game ready aspect. Shortly after the P228 model was done, I jumped straight into Substance Painter and did a rough texture pass, matching the look and the colors as good as possible with the real life counterpart. A solid week of detailing and watching reference videos and pictures came after this. I think it was worth every single hour. I definitely improved a lot by doing this.

    I like to duplicate my model and mirror the duplicated piece in different positions. In this way I can look around the model and see the separate pieces as well as the final model.

    The SIG Sauer P228 is my best weapon model to date and I took my time to learn as much as possible during the making of it. In total, I spent over 2 and a half weeks only on the pistol, texturing taking me over half of that time.


    This is the top down view I was talking about when I said I separated the high poly slide model. In order to add the separated metal piece in here I modeled it separately and it really adds that little extra realism.

    @will2k you are right, so i made a blend material using some white plaster and those beige/brown stones. Also i changed the sand texture from the 4way blend material. I want the map to suggest heat.
