Radix got a reaction from Thrik in Need help - 'light_omni2' is going crazy lighting up my 3d skybox
I'm not familiar with Source2 yet, but since 99% of Mapcore members try their best to ignore the forum, some basic ideas I have:
    - Do you have a seperate *.vmap for your 3d skybox? (Some information about 3d skyboxes in S2 here)
    - Did you check the compile log for errors?
    - Maybe just a S2 bug (?)

Been slowly remastering Vandal for CS2, it's probably around 95% finished, just usual spit and polish, working on a uni group project (by myself lol) so absolutely stuffed with work ontop of finishing up this.

    Thanks for your questions. 🙂
I've added shortened versions to the questions collection and added links to your original post. (In the end there will be more hyperlinks in this post than there are synapses in a human brain )
Yeah, maybe we are just too old. 😅 I understand that the kids want to do their own thing. Often it makes sense. I mean you don't want to meet your parents on particular dating apps for example. 😘
Discord seems to work better on smartphones while classic forums are better on the big screen. I think it's a good idea to use the new stuff when it's superior and keep the old stuff as long as it's needed.

First question: in simple 2way blend materials, how one can assign a material property(attributes) to each part (ex. grass and dirt), from what i can see, in the material editor i can only choose one.
Answer: 1. create the two materials that you want to blend using " csgo environment" shader, make sure to use the "heightmap" texture too (if it does not have sufficient contrast, increase it before using it in your preferred image editing software). For the first material assign a property (ex. grass), for the second (ex. dirt).
    2. create the blend material using "csgo environment blend" shader. With this shader you can use both materials or textures but for our purpose we will use materials. In the first material layer assign the first one and in the second the second one. You may add blend effects if you wish or you may tweak the "heightmaps scale" slider for each material if you wish. Now in game the every part of the blend will have its specific sound when stepping on it.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Second question: what cubemap settings are recomended to use in the 3D skybox map to obtain the same water effect like in de_anubis? for now it looks darker the water in the skybox that in the playable map. no matter what i do.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Third question: the refracting material shader does not seem to work. Is there a method to make it work? or other method to make refracting materials? like a a refracting stained glass
    ps
I also prefer the forum format, the discord it´s an unholy mess, oy maybe i am too old for this sh.t

The CS2 Workshop Tools are out for a while now, but there are still many questions (at least I have a lot).
Unfortunately there is no proper documentation yet as it used to be for Source1.
Yes, there are some Youtube tutorials, but mostly about very basic things, not so much about specific questions.
Also this forum is dead atm, so I'm having trouble to get the answers I need.
Yeah, Mapcore is on Discord now, but imo it sucks. It's nice for those who want some daily conversation about mapping. But interesting questions and answers get lost quickly between trash talk, people posting their show off screenshots and whatever in one infinite topic.
So I decided to collect some Q&A here and add links to the answers.
Feel free to ask questions or give answers if you want to... (I will add all of your questions and links to answers to the following post!)

    I recently released fy_pool_day for CS2.
For it, I made a few custom props of inflatable toys that the players can move around and deflate :

I've been asked a lot how I did this, so I made an in depth tutorial for it.

It's not just about the Ragdoll part, it covers everything from the cloth simulation used to create the high poly mesh to the end result.
It's a long video so don't hesitate to use the chapters if you're already familiar with the concepts shown in the video.

In general a lot went wrong during this project. Had a lot of problems with the layout, but I think I found a good compromise in the end. Also learned many new things. Maybe I would even be ready to create a really good map now after all, but I think that it's gonna be the final one. I really like making maps, but it has become too time consuming over the years for just being a hobby. Unfortunately I never managed to get a job in the games industry. So that's it. I hope it's a worthy ending of 20 years of making maps for me. 🙂

    Hey!
Been working on this one for a couple years... and like everyone else want to post before CS2 lol

The maps theme is a evening gala at a museum in Norway. Terrorist's smash into the back and take wealthy hostages. Its a small Hostage map with 4 main routes, lots of height, and eggs... this allows the terrorist's an option to push to camp the exit. This is my second map, so I wanted to make something a little more playful than the standard competitive layout. I was inspired by those late nights playing office... or iceworld lol
Take a look, and let me know if you have some fun!

(correct me if i'm wrong !!)
Technically there are commands to compile using your CPU instead of GPU, at the cost of extra compilation times. But this can become deprecated and removed/not supported in the future.
There are also some updates on the light entities (light and light_spot are obsolete, replaced by light_omni2 and light_barn with the addition of an area light called light_rect). I've heard that these are fine and can be built with CPU as of today.
However, materials that are selfilum can now be emissive and actually emit light over the environment, and i've heard that this is not something doable with a CPU compile.
The RayTrace preview also requires a GPU that supports RT, and it's one of the best thing that came with CS2 tools, so you'd miss that too!

In my opinion, it's worth getting a new GPU if yours doesn't fit this requirement, it's a good time. As you said, it needs to be a GPU that supports raytracing, so it doesn't have to be a RTX (from Nvidia), it can also be an AMD card.
Depending on where you are, the used market can have some good cards at decent prices (~ 200-300 €).
I have a RTX 2070 (which was the first gen of RTX cards) and all the features are working very well (including the low compilation times), it doesn't have to be the latest GPU on the market. The tools are very well optimized, it really just is a tech requirement and it's worth it (in my opinion).

So... got my hands on the new Hammer and had to realize that it will take plenty of time to learn this. Had some hope that I could have ported the map easily without having to spend too much time on the new tools, but that won't work.
So I will probably not get back to this map / Source2 in general. I know it's a shame after burning way more than 5k hours to build this map, but I don't have enough time for things like this anymore.
So if anyone wants the map files, just let me know.
