TheOnlyDoubleF reacted to CrystalDRecruiting in Design Opportunities @ Crystal Dynamics (Full-time)
Hi everyone,
I'm Nate, one of the recruiters at Crystal Dynamics in Redwood City, CA. Some of you may know us as the house that builds the Tomb Raider franchise, but most recently, we have been hard at work on developing our Avengers Project, a collaboration between Marvel and Square Enix.
Our design teams, in both systems and level, are growing at a tremendous rate, so we'd like to get the word out! We have full-time, permanent openings for:
Lead Combat System Designer Associate System Designer Enemy System Designer Player System Designer Technical Level Designer Combat Level Designer Check out our careers page for all our listings at www.crystald.com/careers. Unfortunately, I will not be able to answer any direct inquiries about the roles on this thread, but I'm more than happy to forward on resumes and portfolios of applicants to my hiring managers!
Thanks!
Nate

Hello MapCore Community,
I am Producer for the new Ubisoft studio in Berlin and we are building a team to work on a Far Cry project.
https://www.linkedin.com/in/mickaelgodard/
We have an excellent and very experienced core team and we are now looking for great talents to join us.
As it is the beginning of the studio (just opened on the 2nd of January), we are looking for a bit of everything obviously, but I think some of you (Level Designer, Technical Level Design, Level/Environment Artist) can be interested in some of the job ads:

TheOnlyDoubleF reacted to FMPONE in LawBreakers
I really want this game to succeed. CliffyB is a cool dude IMO and a legend, and that trailer owned. But I'm a little skeptical after the articles that came out where they were quoted saying that five people have ever played this. I think the game has a MAJOR identity crisis, it's unmarketable because they didn't think enough about the characters, the experience, the story behind it. It's GENERIC SHOOTER and the screaming in that trailer (while really funny) sort of belies the problem doesn't it?
Literally might buy it just to support them. They might have made a sordid dud of a game but give them another chance and I think they'll do much, much better. Or maybe they can right the ship, that would be even more impressive.

Hey gang. Just got back from my honeymoon in New Zealand. Loved it. 3 weeks of fast-paced bliss and adventuring. A lot of nature photos taken for source materials and I feel rejuvenated to tackle 3D projects again.

Too bad it doesn't look as smooth as the skate 1 to 3 games used to. Another game EA should have kept on doing if you ask me

TheOnlyDoubleF reacted to General Vivi in Artemy Maltsev - Level Designer
I agree with Double F,
I started inside of a project and was confused a bit.
I would suggest streamlining your site down to 1 page with all of your maps , just a few screenshots, 5 per level (include your videos)
Your text is also not easy on the eyes, very thin and it doesn't read well against your current colored background.

Hello @Flower_Shop_Guy
Thanks for sharing your portfolio with the Core!
I would have one key important feedback to give: When I click on your link, the page opens, and there, I'm directly onto a project and I have absolutely no idea who you are. No name, no role.
I went through all your projects and I still don't know if you are a level designer or an environment artist... Making it clear, whatever the page I'm reading would be a good addition I think.
On another topic, I might miss some information on what we did on the project, design intention. On top of that, I personnaly like when there is a video to see the actual gameplay in the map. Because let's be honestly, no recruiter will download and play your maps and screenshots are not enough to show the potential of your layout. A top view of the map showing paths and opportunities is also a good design sign.

Back in the biz. (not really, just wanted to touch hammer again, I will probably get bored of this in a few days).

@nikkoship, Yeah, the "parker" thing is really temporarily, I just did not have enough time to add some of my overlays. :\ (WIP)
It's already mixed, on these screenshots it's just looks really unobtrusive.

There's no way on earth this will happen, they crunch way too much, she's past that for sure.
As for that PCGamer article, I think all gamers should read it, it raises some very very very important topics about the state of the industry, budgeting, and the cut that devs and publishers make with the different platforms. It's a shame things are the way they are, fragmentation might actually be the answer here, because steam having the monopoly might not exactly be a good thing for anyone.
Dead Space 2 was released a while ago tho, 2010-2011 were the years the industry was trying to grow exponentially by using the wrong techniques, like bloated marketing campaigns and we witnessed the "Call of dutyfication" of many franchises, that's why Dead Space 3 is such a mess too.
We do live in different times now, after loosing their north star, publishers are a little bit more self aware now, even console makers, that's how back in 2014 Playstation won the battle VS other competitors with their "video games first" mentality, and we seem to now be in a industry that primarily follows that mantra now, generally speaking of course. Don't get me wrong, the suits are still the cancer of this industry, but I have faith that we as an industry, be it indie or AAA have the responsibility of trusting that profit and success will follow if you have a quality product, so focus on that first and chill the bullshit micro-transactions or any other transparent money grabbing techniques.Tthe famous quote "Success usually comes to those who are too busy to be looking for it.", came to my mind right now,
