I'm taking a shot at Dark Forces after decades.
Boy, the level design in this game is overly complicated and confusing.

I've been talked with the sven coop creator yesterday on reddit, me and him are trying to get back Neil and the they hunger lost souls stuff (since Sven was involved in the sven coop's they hunger coop) and they barely had access to some stuff.

    Not actually something recent but kind of a retrospective;
Played war thunder quite a bit throughout roughly mid 2020 to mid 2021, coming from someone who mostly plays fps I have to say it was refreshing in many aspects. Compared to (pc) fps titles, it's certainly cool to actually be able to sneak up around someone and not just have them snap a 180 on you at the last second. In the same vain, positioning becomes a lot more meaningful when you can't just go prone at the push of a button, and movement in general becomes more interesting when people can't go from full sprint to complete standstill on a dime.
All of that gets blown off the table by its frankly ridiculous restrictions on f2p accounts, though. There's plenty to be said about microtransactions in most modern titles, but war thunder literally will not let you pick which maps you want to play on unless you're paying for the privilege. As a relevant aside; most of the maps are fuckawful. Don't get me wrong, it makes sense - this way they can keep queue times low on all maps for paying customers - but it really makes for a terrible user experience. Relevant aside #2; leaving a match early nets you a, like, 5 minute cooldown - in casual play. ( it's more complex than that but it's irrelevant to the point )
It can be a lot of fun & makes for a great ''well I have 10 minutes to spare'' kind of game, but I'm glad to have quit it and wouldn't recommend it to anyone as is.

I made some doors using ambient occlusion baked into the diffuse map also with alpha channel so i can change the color of the paint without changing the handle door's color ("$blendTintByBaseAlpha" "1")

Aim down sights is the worst human invention since the atomic bomb.
The photogrammetry work on some of these scenes is spectacular.

Arkane could of salvaged that prototype and made their own original game with it. Its so disconnected from half life it could of just been its own IP. That being said I think for the time frame they made it in and how "new" source was at the time they did a really good job with the atmosphere and the lighting. The biggest issue with the gameplay presented is there are next to no breaks. You go from one zombie encounter to another in quick succession and often times have to solve puzzles while they are attacking you. The combat looked like it could be fun if they ever got passed just having zombies run at you. Overall a bit of a shame it never went anywhere, but at the same time Arkane also had bigger and better ideas that worked out for them.

I’m very happy the Ravenholm game was cancelled.
I know it was way in alpha but it just doesn’t feel HL, looks like what a mod team across the fanbase would come up with: goofy ideas and borderline messing up with the continuity/canon.
The electricity gun for as fun as it can seem, just seems out of place in terms of tech available for the guy: the priest builds very mechanical traps and all of a sudden turns into Tesla?

I played the ps5 version of this. It's crazy how well it's put together, it's one of the best open world games in my opinion.
The minimalistic approach for the HUD worked so well. Using a wind mechanic as a guidance system was brilliant. Though they still needed a blinking HUD element to highlight the interaction point when you got close enough. There were only a handful of instances where I didn't get that indicator and took me a few minutes to find the exact place for a button press.
One of the few open world games where the combat didn't feel like tedious busywork at the end of the game.

Just an indie project and not even settled on an engine yet.  Most likely it will all end up in Unreal when we reach certain milestone.

Really looking forward to actually getting all this stuff into the engine with full normalmapped materials, particles and env-FX, and proper shadow-casting lights, etc. and coming back with some lovely 4K shots.  For now, these are some low-res shots straight from DarkRadiant cam-view, using only the diffuse textures:-

Watched Memories of Murder, which I thought was one of the better films I've ever seen. I heard that this was the first "masterpiece" from the director of Parasite, and I honestly think that seems like a very fair statement because I loved Parasite but this seems easily as good or better.

and Bringing out the Dead, which Nicholas Cage said was one of his best films. I thought it was non-essential Scorcese, just OK. very atmospheric and well-paced as he usually is capable of, but otherwise pretty forgettable. And Cage seemed pretty much Cage, nothing exceptional.
